Guards:
• Derrick Kaps (6’1” / 2021 / Powerhouse Hoops / Highland): The Sophomore, Kaps showed a multi-dimensional game from the guard position. Creating his own shot, Derrick was able to score off the dribble often. A strong rebounder from the guard position, the Powerhouse guard was tough going up with the bigger players. A solid ball handler, the sophomore was able to keep things in command as well.
• Brett Hardt (6’1” / 2021 / Powerhouse Hoops / Rancho Salano Prep): The guard was a threat from deep, his primary way of scoring. A sweet strokes Hardt had the green light whenever he wanted it, often connecting from deep. Also, not afraid to get dirty, as he showed the ability to take a key charge, which you really like to see. Moving well without the ball, the sophomore gets open for high percentage looks.
• Diego Solis (5’11 / 2021 / Coastal Elite / La Jolla): Solis impressed me with his defensive instincts in the game I watched. He was all over the place, and able to force turnovers. Does a lot of the dirty work, going for loose balls. On offense, Solis can handle the ball and was a distributor within the halfcourt.
• Solomon Little (6’3” / 2021 / Coastal Elite / Balboa Prep): Solomon Williams showed his threat with and without the ball. A slasher that can get to the rim, and finish. Also, off the dribble, Williams proved to be dangerous. Able to switch hands and finish with either – through the lane. I was impressed with Williams approach to the game I watched as well.
• Evan Nelson (6’2” / 2020 / Powerhouse Hoops / Salpointe Tucson): The guard also has a good handle to the game and knows the exact play to make. Nelson can create his own shot from multiple levels, as well as get to the line. But, another solid option for a good Powerhouse Hoops team.
