Summer basketball programs, in the Greater Houston Area, have been fine tuning their players and teams for over a month in anticipation of this coming weekend. YES! It is time for the first Live Period of the season! Players from all over the nation are eager to display their basketball talents in front of college coaches and take advantage of the opportunities that may be present themselves by playing well this weekend. While most of the focus will be on players representing the loaded class of 2020, the class of 2021 has some outstanding prospects that can get a jump on recruitment if they play as well as they are accustomed to. Here’s a look at some of the 2021 players from Houston that we should keep our eyes on.
Jake Arnold – Katy Taylor High School – 6’2 Guard. Texas Takeover Elite Kemp 2021 (AAU)
Jake has a great feel for the game on both ends of the floor. The space he creates for himself to shoot is amazing, which is good because he is a knock down shooter from outside. He is also creative and shifty when attacking the basket and plays with a “Russell Westbrook” type passion. Look for him to play at the Texas GASO – Duncanville starting April 26th.
Rueben Fatheree II – Foster High School – 6’8 F/C. Houston Hoops 17U (AAU)
Rueben is a MAN down low on the block. His nimble footwork compliments his ability to carve out space in the paint where he is a great finisher. Powerful, crafty and vocal, Rueben is a great leader, great rebounder (especially offensively) and surprisingly a good passer. Look for him to play at the Nike EYBL Session One – Atlanta, GA starting April 26th.
Jacob Harvey – Huffman High School – 5’11 Point Guard. Houston TopGuns 17U (AAU)
Jacob is an elusive three level scorer that can flat out win you games. He dictates the game well, passes the ball well yet knows exactly when his scoring prowess needs to emerge. From the 3 point arc, there’s no question, the kid can shoot it. He has good vision and is a remarkable passer. Look for him to play at the Texas GASO – Duncanville starting April 26th.
JaDyn Chaney – Westfield High School – 6’1 Point Guard. Texas Takeover Elite Kemp 2021 (AAU)
JaDyn is the epitome of a point guard’s point guard. He sees the floor exceptionally well and does a great job of keeping everyone on the team involved on the offensive end. Defensively, he is what we call a “dawg” stealing the ball, not only by playing the passing lanes, but also by playing great on the ball defense. Oh yeah, and he can score, particularly by attacking the basket. Look for him to play at the Texas GASO – Duncanville starting April 26th.
Jake Simpson – Brazoswood High School – 6’4 Guard. Houston Raptors Benjamin (AAU)
Jake is a swiss army knife on the court. He really does everything on the court well. His shooting ability opens up lanes for him to attack the paint, which compliments his ability to pass the ball once the defense collapses. And he is a smart player on offense and defense. Look for him to play at the Texas GASO – Duncanville starting April 26th.
Latrell Moore – Willowridge High School- 6’4 Guard. Select ONE (AAU)
Latrell is an explosive athlete that will stand out regardless of who else is on the court. He is great at combining his basketball IQ and athleticism and using it to his advantage. This allows him to be a great defender as well as a reliable scorer. Although he is effective on the wing, the potential of him being a point guard is not only intriguing but exciting.
Braedon Edison – Cinco Ranch High School – 6’2 F/G. Basketball Universiy (AAU)
Many people compare Braedon to Draymond Green because of his ability to do multiple things on the court. However, Braedon is more consistent as a shooter. He is a “pick your poison” type of player that can affect the game in multiple ways and stuff the stat sheet in the process. Look for him to play at the Adidas Gauntlet Session 1 – Dallas starting April 26th.
Noah Kon – Houston Christian High School – 6’0 Point Guard. Houston Defenders 16U (AAU)
Noah may be the quickest guard in his class from Houston. Extremely crafty with the ball in his hands which presents him with favorable scoring positions, and he can definitely score. Also, he is a willing passer with great vision and he controls the game effectively. Look for him to play at the UA Session – Kansas City, MO starting April 26th.
