#HardworkSZNKickoff: Mason’s Top Wings
This past weekend was the #HardworkSZNKickoff and there was talent all over the gym. In this article, I’ll look at the top five wings that I saw, regardless of class. This is performance based off of the games that I saw, not a talent based list.
Dylan Holston – 6’1 – 2020 – Powerhouse Hoops 2020 (NE)
Holston was probably my favorite player to watch this weekend. He is a very coachable player and plays really tough every second of the game. He fits best as a wing I’d say, but in reality he’s a position-less player. Holston is a really strong and well built player who can handle the ball. He’s skilled enough to be a guard, but strong enough to post up down low. One of the better playmakers of the weekend. Someone is going to get a steal with this kid as he just does it all.
Matthew Mors – 6’7 – 2021 – SD Attack 2020 (SoDak)
Mors just literally beat down everyone that he faced this weekend. He’s a wing who has the ability to jump, shoot, rebound, and defend. Mors is the total package and is going to be a monster at the next level. He’s one of the top players in the nation and showed why this weekend. Mors is a player that is going to turn heads no matter who he plays against and this weekend was no different as he led his team to the 17U championship.
Louis Fidler – 6’5 – 2020 – Team Factory Gold 2020 (NE)
While Fidler isn’t the main player on this Team Factory Gold team, he’s one of the top shooters in Nebraska. He’s a well built wing who doesn’t jump off the charts at you, but is going to be one of those guys who just plays steadily every single game. Fidler is a guy who plays really solid defense and is deadly from the wing when he is in rhythm. Loved watching him play and is a guy who might fly under the radar a bit due to his talented team.
Mack Sebert – 6’5 – 2021 – Wisconsin Crusaders 2021 (WI)
Sebert is a tall and lengthy player on a Crusaders team that is full of them. He’s probably the tallest on that team as far as guards and wings go but he is one of the most effective ones. He is really good as a slasher and scoring at the rim. Sebert is a solid passer as well allowing him to pass over the top of defenders with his height. Really solid defender as well who enjoys locking down on the defensive side of the ball.
Ethan O’Donnell – 6’4 – 2021 – Iowa Mavs: Villagrana 2021 (IA)
While the Iowa Mavs didn’t play too well in the game that I watched, O’Donnell definitely stood out. He is able to score at all three levels and was getting to the rim really effectively. Saw him drain a couple 3-pointers and set up his teammates. With a shortened bench, O’Donnell was forced to play a lot longer than he is used to but handled it well and never seemed like he got tired. I think he’s going to be a big stock riser this summer if he keeps this up this summer.
