#HardworkSZNKickoff: Mason’s Top Shooting Guards
This past weekend was the #HardworkSZNKickoff and there was talent all over the gym. In this article, I’ll look at the top five shooting guards that I saw, regardless of class. This is performance based off of the games that I saw, not a talent based list.
Jaxon Heth – 5’9 – 2020 – Iowa Mavs: Cleveland 2020 (IA)
Heth was a guy I saw on the first night of action and I thought he played pretty well. He was looking for his shot, but not over doing it too much. He’s a smaller guard but when he’s on and in rhythm he has the ability to really start knocking shots down. Heth is someone that due to his size is going to need to have a quick release and he certainly has one.
Beau Frericks – 6’1 – 2020 – RWA 2020 (IL)
Possibly the best shooter in the event, Frericks was on fire the entire event. He made six 3-pointers in one game and was very efficient in doing so. He can handle it just a bit allowing him to play on ball and use screens to open himself up. If the defender goes under the screen, it’s game over. He’s one of the best shooters in all of Illinois.
Greg Brown – 6’5 – 2021 – Team Factory Gold 2021 (NE)
Brown is probably more of a wing than a guard but I think he is going to be able to play both at the next level fairly smoothly. He’s a tall kid who can shoot the ball really well and run off screens. Brown has the ability to create without the ball in his hands and I think that really sets him apart. I loved his ability to impact the game in many different ways this weekend. Brown is a threat on both ends from anywhere on the floor.
Dustin Beauprey – 6’3 – 2021 – Wisconsin Crusaders AD 2021 (WI)
Beauprey was unbelievable this weekend with his efficiency and ability to shoot the ball. In high school this past season he scored 40.8 points a game on 65 percent shooting which is simply insane. He’s a guy who just goes out and scores the ball against whoever he plays. He’s fluid with the ball and shoots it so well that he is going to easily put up points against all of his competition.
Jake Orr – 6′ – 2022 – Team Factory Gold 2022 (NE)
Orr was a guy who I saw on Sunday in the 15U championship and he played really well. Orr has a really, really good looking mid-range jumper that he kept hitting on Sunday morning. He has the handle to create space and then hit a jumper in your face. Loved the repeatability on the jumper and his confidence to shoot it in traffic. Should be a high level scorer over the next few years.
