Hard Work Live: Scotty B’s Top Out of State Prospects

Over the weekend PrepHoopsIllinois was at the Hard Work Live tournament in Madison, Wisconsin. The event is part of the Prep Hoops Circuit. Here we examine the top prospect from outside of the state of Illinois that impressed us with their play!

SF Jacksun Hamilton (La Crosse Elevate 17U)

Hamilton is a 6’7” small forward with a long and rangy body from Wisconsin. He has an ultra-smooth game to go along with his projectable frame. The forward was very good around the hoop with acrobatic finishes. Also was excellent rebounding in traffic.

F Matthew Mors (South Dakota Attack 17U)

The top prospect at the event had one of the best performances we saw all weekend. At 6’7” he has strength, skill, and athleticism. He uses the strength to post up weaker defenders garnering deep post position and a sweet hook shot. He is a skilled offensive threat that stretches the floor with his perimeter shooting with a consistent three point shot. Can also put it on the deck and get to the hole. He had a pair of MONSTER dunks which I happened to be sitting right underneath that hoop for. High-major prospect.

PF Alex Vankalsbeek (South Dakota Attack 17U)

Mors plays on a well-rounded team that always seems to have a different guy step up. The 6’6” power forward was a force down low with his ability to score with his back to the basket. Soft hands catching dump off passes in the paint. Efficient player.

SG Charles Katona (Minnesota Fury 17U)

At 6’6” the two guard was a very good player. He talked smack to the other team, but in a fun way. After one play he created a turnover and told the other team “now that’s good D!” Competitive kid that rebounds and slashes to the hoop.

PG Keaton Ferris (Wisconsin Crusaders 17U)

Ferris is a small combo guard that lets it fly from three! The junior guard is a plus shooter with deep range on his shot. He drilled several threes from NBA range along with stop and pop pull ups.

SG Josh Rogers (Minnesota Fury 17U)

Rogers is an athletic two guard that impressed with his explosion especially on his second jump getting on the offensive glass. Crashed the offensive boards with reckless abandon. He was also outstanding in transition as a wing finisher. Broad shouldered wing with length that can pass it a little too.

PF Payton Sandfort (Kingdom Hoops 17U)

Sandfort is a well-built 6’7” 2021 prospect from Iowa. He can face up and drill threes with ease. Also effective on the block with his back to the basket game. Solid combination of skill, power, and mobility.

PF Andrew Morgan (Minnesota Heat 16U)

Morgan is another 6’8” post with broad shoulders and strength. Strong rebounder on both ends of the floor. Good looking jump shot and hits his free throws when he goes to the line. At the end of the half we saw he threw down a huge slam! High ceiling kid that also has a high floor.

PF Wyatt Olson & PF Jordan Merseth (Minnesota Rise 17U)

This Minnesota Rise duo was the strength of their team. They rebounded at a high rate and anchored in the paint against a smaller and weaker frontline. Soft touch around the hoop for both. They play around a group of quality shooters and consistently found them out of the post for threes.

SF Malcolm Reed (Wisconsin Academy 17U)

At 6’4” the Wisconsin Academy wing has broad shoulders and a big time scoring game. The unsigned senior is a plus athlete who is strong slashing to the rim. He has range on his jumper and when he made threes did the “air guitar” just like Lance Stephenson.

C Jacob Jennissen (Minnesota Matrix 17U)

Jennissen is a thin 6’11” five man that will definitely have to add strength go forward, but has a lot of tools to work with. Excellent back to the basket player that uses the glass well to bank in shots. Runs the floor with a purpose.
