Continue ReadingSunday action started off in the 16U pool with quarterfinals action. Team Griffin proved again how good there are with a big time performance against a quality St. Louis Blazers squad on Sunday morning. Once again it was a well balanced attack. The star in this one though was KJ Adams. The versatile and powerful combo forward mauled on the interior while also knocking down mid-range jumpers like they were going out of style. Daimian Collins was a force on the defensive end with his shot blocking. Length and timing for days with this 6’9” post. Trey Alexander ran the show as usual at 6’5”. The jumbo combo guard has such a bright future with his combination of skill, power, and defense. No doubt high-major prospect. Other contributors included Bijan Cortes and Jaxson Robinson. For the St. Louis Blazers guard Willie Davis had his moments knocking down jumpers. Rico Singleton continues to be one to track in Missouri. Inside duo of Joe Ware and Aaron Hendricks are intriguing long term developmental prospects.
Prospect Evaluations
PG Trey Alexander (Team Griffin 16U)
Alexander stands at 6’5” with great size and strength. He has proven throughout the event he can play both on and off the ball. So powerful when attacking downhill. Burst on his first step and is strong through the gather at the rim. He is stronger than most of the posts he will see at the event. Hit an early three in this game showing sound shooting mechanics. Rebounds well for his position. Like his passing feel getting others involved. Lock down perimeter defender.
SF KJ Adams (Team Griffin 16U)
As mentioned above the star of the game was KJ Adams. This 6’6” forward plays with a high intensity level on both ends of the floor. He is a plus rebounder that is a dominant force on the glass with his strength and quickness. Got on the offensive boards for several put backs. Really good mid-range shooting connecting on an array of them in this game. He had a monster slam off a backboard pass. On area that might go overlooked is his outlet passes which were on the money every time. Tough defender that can check multiple spots.
SF Bijan Cortes (Team Griffin 16U)
Cortes didn’t have the huge game he did yesterday, but was still impressive. What you have to like here is the skill set, size, and ability to play within a team concept. Very good layup maker in transition.
PF Daimian Collins (Team Griffin 16U)
This 6’9” long and lanky forward is a prime time rim protector! Swatted shots left and right and altered many others. He also runs the floor very well in transition and has a knack for getting on the offensive glass. So much upside here!
SF Jaxson Robinson (Team Griffin 16U)
Here is another long term potential guy with his length and projectable frame. Robinson can check multiple positions on the defensive end and flashes skill including connecting on a corner three.
PG Willie Davis (St. Louis Blazers 16U)
Davis didn’t back down one bit in this game against the huge Team Griffin. He took it right at the defense where he hit threes and an assortment of pull up jumpers. Tough kid that displayed competitiveness throughout the game.
PG Rico Singleton (St. Louis Blazers 16U)
It wasn’t quite the performance he had earlier in the event when we saw him, but the point guard still flashed. Capable shooter that has go to scorer ability. Also rebounded well from his guard spot.
