#GrindSZNKickoff: Steadiest Performers (Day 2)
The Prep Hoops Circuit #GrindSZNKickoff was in full force on Saturday between nine different gyms in Oklahoma City.
I focused my attention to the action at Solid Rock Basketball.
Here is a look at some of the steadiest performers I saw on Day 2 of the event.
Sam Richardson (Missouri Hancock/Gateway Basketball Club)
I really enjoyed watching Sam Richardson lead the charge for Gateway Basketball Club against the Tulsa Hawks in an early afternoon matchup. The 6’5″ 2020 Hancock guard sets the pace, has very good court awareness and can attack when needed. He finished with 12 points in an all-around showing.
Andrew Chambers & Quajon Young (North Florida Hurricanes)
It was back and forth between the North Florida Hurricanes and the Oklahoma Hustle. The Hurricanes ultimately pulled out the 72-64 victory and quite frankly it was second half performances from Andrew Chambers (Raines) and Quajon Young (Mandarin) that sealed the deal. Chambers was sound from the jump with his 6’4″ frame as he worked inside on cuts and feeds to finish with 21 points. Young, a speedy 5’8″ guard picked it up in the final 10 minutes to end with a game-high 24 points as he attacked relentlessly.
Daniel Abreu (Missouri Willard/Missouri Flight)
For a very skilled Missouri Flight squad, 2020 forward Daniel Abreu was very reliable. The 6’6″ Willard wing had 19 points in an 8 am tilt with Texas Take Over. Abreu uses his length very well and knows how to contort his body the right way to weave past bodies inside and with the mid-range jumper. He was rock solid.
Ja’Bryant Hill & Tayton Conerway (Team Foe Elite)
The 2020 pairing of Ja’Bryant Hill (Texas Duncanville) and Tayton Conerway (Texas Burleson Centennial) really intrigued me in a win over BTR. It was Hill, a 5’10” speedster who did just about everything in the first half with 16 points before resting in the second half with a big lead intact. Conerway, a 6’2″ guard went to the cup over and over with eight points which nearly including two more on a high flying alley-oop that just rimmed out.
Donovan Kinney (Texas Martin/Texas Elite-Kinney)
Donavan Kinney is a strong and athletic guard who played up with the 17U group and he really impressed me. It wasn’t the flashiest game from the 5’11” guard, but he showed poise and a ton of determination. The willingness to attack and put his body on the line was awfully fun to watch from the 2021 Martin guard. He was creating for others time and time again.
