These prospects provided leadership and were big factors in there teams success. Let’s take a look at a few prospects that college coaches should be aware of heading into the Spring/Summer Grassroots season.
Jamal Mott 6’1 PG / Huffman HS {AL} / 2020 / Alabama Celtics
Although Jamal is a score first point guard, he still was able to control the flow of the game for the Celtics. He has a decent IQ. Has some shiftiness to his game. Plays with a great motor. He can score the ball from all three levels. Has a quick first step. He knew when to speed things up and also slow them down. Good lateral movement. Vocal leader on the floor. Would be a solid addition to a D2/D3/JuCo/NAIA school.
BJ Francis 5’10 PG / Waxahachie HS {TX} / 2020 / Dallas Showtyme
Speedy guard who gets to the 2nd level of the defense almost every time. BJ has a mean first and second step which creates separation. He also has some blow by speed to get by defenders. Once he is in the second level of the defense. He utilizes his floater package or forces the defense to collapse and hits the open man on the wing. He also made a couple of threaded passes in the lane. Has a good offensive IQ and knows what every one is suppose to be doing. Solid point who plays the position well. Would be a solid pick up for any of these school at the D2/D3/NAIA levels.
Tahj Patterson 6’0 PG / Lutheran North HS {MO} / 2020 / Gateway Basketball Club
He is a quick guard with a mean first step. Controls the tempo of his team. Gets his teammates involved in the game. Shoots the ball well from behind the arc. Has a good high IQ on the offensive side of the ball. Reads defenses well and takes what they give to him. Has a good size frame for the next level also. Once by defenders he was able to keep them on the backside of his hips to create for his teammates. He would fit well in D1 Low Major/D2/NAIA program.
DJ Stewart 5’10 PG / Fort Bend Bush HS {TX} / 2020 / Houston Raptors-Benjamin (As Seen In Pic)
DJ is a shifty guard. Plays at a fast pace for most of the game. He speeds up defenses every time he has the ball in his hands. He does well in both a half court and transition set. Though he lies to play fast he controls the game by slowing it down when he needs to. Super high motor kid who seems to never get tired. Never seen a kid dive after as many balls as he does. Defensively he is pesky. Great lateral movement with quick hands to get steals. Plays well in both man and zone defense. He is shifty with the ball in his hands. He makes difficult passes look easy. Drops dimes every game and seldom turns the ball over. High IQ on both sides of the ball. His game reminds me of a young Rajon Rondo. Would fit well at a D1 Mid Major+/Mid Major/ Mid-Low Major/Low Major/D2 program.
Isaiah Calhoun 5’10 PG / Plano HS {TX} / 2020 / NTX Crush
Here is a guard that continues to impress me. He is a great all-around point. Has high IQ on both sides of the ball. Plays with multiple speeds. Has good strength for his size. Good stop and go moves. Has a great handle on the ball with good ball speed. Was able to get his teammates involved in the game. Scored the ball on every level. Finishes well at the rim. Displayed mid-range game. Transition trey balls at the right moments in the game. He is a fierce defender. Great lateral movement. Uses his body well defensively and always makes sure his opponent can feel him throughout the game. Would be a great addition to a D1 Mid Major/Mid-Low Major/Low Major/D2 institute of higher learning.
CJ Campbell 5’11 PG / Edmond Memorial HS {OK} / 2020 / Oklahoma Eagles
A quick guard who leads his team. CJ always knows whats going on when hes in the game. Has good offensive IQ. Makes the right plays at the right times. Plays solid on the defensive side of the ball. Has good ball speed and quickness. He scores well in the paint and from behind the arc. Lays the ball high off the backboard. Interested to see his progression over the sessions of the circuit this Spring/Summer. Would be a good fit for a D3/NAIA school.
Ja’Bryant Hill 5’10 PG / Duncanville HS {TX} / 2020 / Team FOE Elite
This small guard is quick and exciting to watch. Plays with a high motor. Plays with emotion also. Has great lateral movement defensively. He is a shifty guard that has a nice dribble package to his game. He was hard for opposing teams to guard. Split multiple double teams. He can shoot the long ball and hits at a high rate. His deep ball shooting allows him to use his speed and blow by opponents as he reads what they are giving to him. Would be a solid pick up for any program at the D2/D3/NAIA level.
Melvin Holloway 5’9 PG / St Thomas Episcopal HS {TX} / 2020 / Texas MEL Elite
Mel is a known three point specialist. He is a threat from behind the arc. When he’s on he is on, and can be a 24 feet assassin. This early spring he has been showcasing a side that I’ve rarely get to see from him. He has been facilitating with spot on dimes. He plays with a bounciness to his game. Which adds to his quickness to make him unpredictable as if he’s going to shoot or pass. Has been getting to the second level of the defense and dropping dimes to his guys on the block and the wing. He continues to add to his stock. I look forward to watching his recruitment from this spring until he makes his decision. Great fit for a D1 Mid-Low Major/Low Major/D2.
Demarcus Sanford Jr 6’2 PG / Lift for Life Academy {MO} / 2021 / St Louis Blazers 16U
Demarcus can also play off the ball as a two as well as a point. Running the show is his strong suit. He has a nice dribble set up. Even though he can blow by you, he will also set you up as a defender to create for his teammates. He was able to get in the lane practically every time. Plays with a good motor. Understands his teammates strengths and weaknesses. Reads the defense well and exploits his defender. He scores at all levels on the floor. Scrappy defender who has good lateral movement. Excited to watch this prospect grow over the Spring/Summer. College coaches at the D1 Mid-Low/Low Major/D2 get your eyes on this prospect at the two LIVE events this year.
Azari Woods 6’0 PG / Manvel HS {TX} / 2021 / Texas MEL Elite 16U
Azari is one of the most scrappiest guards that play the game. He gets after it on the defensive end of the ball. He may not be the biggest guy on the floor but he has springs. Can score the ball at all levels. Gets to the rim with ease. Finishes well despise the size of the defender. Gets his teammates involved in the game. Utilizes his speed and quickness to control the offense. Plays with a super high motor. Will be interesting to watch his progress over the next two years. College coaches at he D1 Low Major/D2 get your eyes on this prospect.
