Here is a look at some of the top shooters I saw on Day 2 of the event.
ICYMI: #GrindSZNKickoff: Steadiest Performers (Day 2)
Nate Goodlow (Oklahoma Del City/Team Griffin)
Not only is Nate Goodlow a high IQ passer and a gifted shooter, he can create and get inside relentlessly. The 2020 6’3″ Del City guard is a fancy finisher with a vast array of moves that can trick defenders. He drove to the lane and cleared everyone out just to connect with his teammate Ben Emmert for a 3-pointer from the top of the key in an evening matchup with Texas Take Over. Goodlow is one of the best players at the event hands down.
Zachariah Edwards (Texas Chavez/D1 Houston)
In a loss to TSK, 2019 6’7″ Chavez forward Zachariah Edwards found some space to work with. The gifted shooter added 17 points, including some impressive outside jumpers. Edwards is lean and still raw, a perfect post graduate candidate. He can be molded.
Davon Wright (Texas Cypress Springs/Texas Take Over)
Good both times I saw him on the day, 2020 6’6″ Cypress Springs forward Davon Wright is very smooth as an attacker and pull up shooter. Also, a gifted shot blocker, Wright can really mix it up with what he does every time down the floor. His biggest strength is his shooting ability.
Conner Calavan (Oklahoma Fort Gibson/Tulsa Hawks)
A natural born shooter, Conner Calavan plays for one of the scrappiest 17U groups in the state with the Tulsa Hawks. The 2020 6’3″ Fort Gibson guard recorded 12 points (four 3’s) in a loss to Gateway Basketball Club in the afternoon. Calavan is a team player and someone always looking to hit from deep.
Breven McMullen (Missouri Central/Gateway Basketball Club)
Showing consistency in his offensive game, 2020 Parks Hill Central guard Breven McMullen paced the floor with 10 points. He shot well and has a good floater game as well. He’s able to switch hands off his dribble and shoot from 15 feet out. He’s very confident as well.
