Last year USA Basketball started a mini camp that would be held in the same location as the men’s final four and also on the same floor and arena. This year’s camp will be held on April 4-7th.
Last year, Georgia was represented with Auburn commit 2019 forward Isaac Okoro of McEachern High School. This year the peach state will be well represented with six prospects. 2020 PG Sharife Cooper of McEachern High School, 2020 W Brandon Boston Jr. of Norcross High School, 2020 C Walker Kessler of Woodward Academy, 2021 SG Chance Moore of Holy Innocents, 2021 F Jabari Smith Jr. of Sandy Creek High School, and 2022 PG Dillon Hunter of Westlake High School are expected to head to Minnesota this weekend.
Nike EYBL Athlete of Tomorrow (GA) teammates Sharife Cooper and Brandon Boston Jr. will be making their second and third appearance in the USA Basketball mini camp. Sharife Cooper is coming off an amazing season with his McEachern squad and where they finished 32-0 and capturing their first ever state title. The 6-foot-0 point guard is making his second appearance with USA Basketball with his first time being back in October before the season.
Brandon Boston Jr. is making his third appearance with USA Basketball. Besides his appearance back in October’s mini camp, the 6-foot-7 wing was a participant in the U17 FIBA National Team tryouts back in June, but unfortunately, BJ Boston did not make the final roster. The 7-foot-0 center Walker Kessler will be making his first trip to participate in the USA Basketball mini camp despite being invited to the event in October. Kessler was out then due to a family trip according to his Mom.
Other newcomers include the only sophomores representing the peach state in Chance Moore and Jabari Smith Jr. Both Moore and Jabari Smith Jr. have received the national attention throughout the high school season and it certainly has paid off after receiving invites to participate in the USA Basketball mini camp. Moore is a pure scorer at 6-foot-5 while Smith Jr. is a versatile 6-foot-8 forward on the rise.
Another underclassmen that is on the rise and making his second USA Basketball appearance will be freshman Dillon Hunter. Hunter is a 6-foot-3 point guard who came into this high school already on the national radar and considered one of the top freshman in the country. He is making his second appearance after participating in the USA Basketball mini camp back in October. Hunter had a solid freshman season alongside his older brother Chase Hunter, who is headed to Clemson next fall, finishing 18-11 overall and bringing home a region championship.
