Dez McKinney 6’0″ Marcus Denmon Elite 17U: The 2020 point guard from Raytown South was big on both ends in the his team’s victory over Gateway in the championship game. He was tough at getting to the basket and finishing at the rim with consistency. He was just as effective on the defensive end where he was a disruptive force. He also had a highlight-reel blocked shot in transition in the semifinals.
Quran Taylor 6’0″ Marcus Denmon Elite 16U: The 2021 point guard from University Academy has an excellent performance in his team’s victory over Team Ramey CCM in the championship game. He did a nice job of running the pick and roll where he just got downhill and got buckets and drew fouls. I was very impressed with his ability to rebound from the guard position.
Brennan Lovette 6’4″ Knights Basketball Academy 15U: The versatile freshman forward from DeSmet led the Knights to the 15U championship with his excellent all-around play. He is very comfortable playing anywhere on the court with his ability to handle the ball, pass it and score from a variety of spots on the floor. He has good size and a high basketball IQ to go along with his skill set.
Mario Fleming 6’3″ Team Ramey CCM 16U: A physical wing player who is making the transition from the low post to the perimeter. He has continued to improve his ball handling and ability to score off the dribble on floaters and short jumpers. His size and strength as a guard makes for a complete mismatch when he is matched up against other smaller opposing guards.
Jalen Hampton 6’5″ Gateway 16U: A young jumping jack combo forward who had a very productive day with his motor and ability to rebound and finish around the basket. He has a chance to make a name for himself during the grassroots season. He runs the floor and constantly beat opposing bigs for transition buckets.
Devon Barshow 6’6″ Arsenal Hoops 17U: A young 2020 player who is poised to have a breakout summer. A long and lean wing player who has the ability to score. He is an impressive 3-point shooter who was very good off the catch, especially from the corner. He has grown four to five inches over the course of his high school career and his skill level makes him a very intriguing prospect.
Najee Williams 6’3″ Marcus Denmon Elite 16U: A very athletic combo forward who enjoyed an impressive performance in MDE’s victory over Team Ramey in the championship game. His athleticism and high motor made for a very productive weekend. He was one of best players in the tournament at finishing the break in transition. He either dunked it or scored on a slick Euro step at full speed. He rebounded well and scored around the basket in the half court.
