Lamontay Daugherty 6’7″ Team Ramey 17U CCM: The combo forward from Mehlville was strong today as he attacked the basket with great aggression and had several rim-rattling dunks. He is a very skilled performer who can cause matchup problems with his size and ability to put the ball on the floor and hit jumpers. With that being said, I was most impressed with his aggression in the two games that he played.
Kobe Campbell 6’0″ Marcus Denmon Elite 17U: A slick combo guard from Raytown South is very good at getting to the basket and scoring from different angles and playing through contact. He scored over the top of defenders and on a number of reverse layups. He has nice handles and can pass the basketball while making good decisions while playing at a faster tempo.
Charlie Ferrick 6’2″ Missouri Basketball Club 17U: “Charlie Buckets” displayed the same kind of scoring chops at the grassroots level that he showed during the high school season at Priory. He is constantly in motion and attacking the basket off the dribble. He has an uncanny way to score at different angles and play through contact. He is always putting the pressure on the opposing defense without any let up.
Harrison Vickers 6’5″ Gateway 17U: The athletic lefty from Chaminade is an excellent all-purpose player who can fill many roles to make a team successful. He can handle the ball and make decisions as a playmaker very comfortably. He is an excellent rebounder who really attacks the offensive boards and he plays really well in the transition in the game whether he’s running the break or finishing on the back end.
Brennan Watkins 5’9″ Marcus Denmon Elite 16U: The point guard from Kearney was very impressive in leading his team to a couple of wins in pool play on Saturday. I first caught his act at the Prep Hoops Fall Showcase in September and he has continued to get better. He is a knockdown shooter from 3-point range, but he can also handle the ball and make plays for his teammates. He plays with a lot of confidence and savvy.
Lance Hackney 6’7″ Knights Basketball Academy 16U: A robust low post player who displayed some excellent moves in the lane and finished well around the basket with both hands. He has a big body and he knows how to use it around the basket. I was really impressed with his ability to score with his left hand, which is his opposite hand.
Drenin Dinkins 5’8″ Gateway 15U: The small guard from South Iron showed the ability to fill it up from all three levels in the two games that his team played. He is an excellent 3-point shooter who can get it done off the catch or get his own off the dribble. He also showed some toughness in getting into the lane and taking the contact and finishing on some nice drives. As a freshman, he has already proven to be one of the top Class 1 point guards in the state.
