The event was loaded with numerous teams, some of which included very talented prospects. In this article, Brandon Jenkins highlights the point guards who stood out with their level of play this past weekend:
Julian Larry – Point Guard– Marcus Smart YGC36 (Adidas) – 2020
Larry performed well leading his team to a 3-0 record this past weekend. He checked nearly all the boxes required for what coaches want in a point guard. He forced turnovers when defending on-ball, was an excellent lay-up maker through traffic, and dished out the rock to his teammates on the majority of his high-level attacks. The only unchecked box was his shooting from the outside. As defenses tend to leave him open from deep, Larry needs to become more of a threat from the outside, rather than relying on his athleticism.
Ja’Sean Jackson – Point Guard – Texas Hardwork 16U (UAA) – 2021
Jackson was looking as confident as ever scoring the rock off the bounce. The trim-framed guard was looking to create scoring opportunities for himself, connecting on multiple jumpers and potent floaters in the lane. His offensive game is ever-improving, while defensively he is as good as it gets when applying full-court pressure.
Naz Brown – Point Guard– 3D Empire – 2022
The strongly-built guard was at it again dropping in buckets from all three levels. He is confident in his jumper and is automatic from the perimeter when he is in rhythm. The diaper dandy also attacks with a purpose and either was scoring tough buckets inside or getting to the foul line against Louisiana Elite 15U (UAA). In that particular game, Brown led his squad in scoring with 22 points in the close victory.
