Last night was also the beginning of the only spring live period and where college coaches get to come see their recruits up, close, and personal. Head coaches from schools like Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, UCLA, Michigan State, Texas, Cal, Baylor, Dayton, and others were in attendance last night for the day one matchups. Let us see who stood out in the first night.
2020 G Cade Cunningham and 2020 F Greg Brown (pictured) – Texas Titans (TX)
The dynamic duo of Cade Cunningham and Greg Brown got the win for the Texas Titans over Drive Nation (TX) to start things off last night. Cade’s battle with other top-10 prospect, PG RJ Hampton, drew a bunch of media outlets, college coaches, and spectators. Brown and Cunningham combined for 48 totals points in their win and each dropping 24 points. Greg, a 6-foot-9 forward out of Vandergrift, Texas, put his full talents on display in front of dozens of college head coaches. He is a quick, versatile, and lengthy forward who played with a great motor and was able to hit a few jumpers as well.
2020 PG RJ Hampton – Drive Nation (TX)
The 6-foot-5 point guard, RJ Hampton, had all of the blue blood coaches watching him on Friday night. Hampton started off slow in his EYBL debut, but picked things up in the second half. He holds long arms as a point guard and has great size at his position. He was on attack mode the entire second half and almost completed the comeback victory for Drive Nation. Hampton can finish at the rim and is able to take contact and draw fouls as well. Hampton recently cut his list to five schools and those schools include Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, Memphis, and TCU.
2021 SG Terrence Clarke – Expressions Elite (MA)
Despite only playing about three and half quarters, Terrence Clarke did what he had to do last night to get his Expression Elite squad a victory. Clarke scored 24 points in his first game of the 2019 Nike EYBL season. The 6-foot-6 wing out of Boston holds tremondous upside and has a very mature skill set. Clarke holds that scorers mentality that you want already in his position. He was able to score on all levels of the floor and made it look effortless at times.
2020 PG Eric Gaines – Team United (NC)
Eric Gaines out of Lithonia High School in Georgia looked pretty solid in his Nike EYBL debut. He might not have scored as much points as he needed too for his team to secure the win, but you can certainly see the potential he holds. Gaines is a 6-foot-2 slim point guard running with Team United (NC) this spring, summer. After playing in the UAA last AAU season, Eric will have to adjust to the tempo and talent that is displayed in the Nike EYBL. He is an explosive guard with bounce and dished out a few pretty good looking assists in his debut last night.
2020 F Jabri Abdur-Rahim – Playaz Club (NJ)
Jabri Abdur-Rahim, made his first appearance in an AAU uniform for the first time in a long time after being injured all last spring, summer. He made his Nike EYBL debut last night and one he will probably want to forget after his team got beat pretty badly. Abdur-Rahim still had himself a solid outing last night. He is a 6-foot-6 forward with good size and seems to always be in attack mode. Jabri was able to finish around the rim once he made his way to the basket and ran the floor pretty well in transition.
2020 SG Josh Christopher and 2021 SG Jaden Hardy – Vegas Elite (NV)
Vegas Elite made their EYBL debut last night and what a fantastic offensive showing they put on display. Vegas Elite dropped 130 total points in their win over the Playaz Club (NJ), an incredible mark. Both Christopher and Hardy combined for 43 points and while Gonzaga commit 2020 F Julian Strawther added 24 points and 2020 SG Noah Taitz added 20 points himself. Both Christopher and Hardy are scoring machines. Those two will be huge problems for any squad during the Nike EYBL season and also Mr. Strawther.
