#1 Derrick Rhodes and #22 Ty Woods- Texas MEL Elite 15U
Texas MEL Elite plays through their top guards Derrick Rhodes and Ty Woods. They are the perfect compliment to each other. Their talents were on display Saturday as they managed to pull out a win over a complete Oklahoma Reign team. Derrick serves as a combo guard while him and Ty are in the game together. He runs the show making sure everybody is where they need to be as well as drawing defenders to help teammates get open looks. As for Ty Woods, he is a bucket on the ball or off the ball. It doesn’t take much to get him going as the game progress and once he gets there, it’s lights out.
#1 Tyler Nettles and #2 Collin Naughton- Boykins Basketball Academy 15U
Tyler Nettles and Collin Naughton, at first glance, don’t look like they would mix very well. Both have totally different playing styles and are ball dominant smaller guards but make it work very well. During the Saturday morning game, Tyler and Collins both had huge first halves, combining for 25 points which set the tone for the rest of the game. Collin makes this duo hard to guard cause of his dead-eye shooting ability, he won’t miss many shots especially once he gets that little bit of space he needs. Tyler, on the other hand, takes whatever he can get from the defense. Whether a lay-up or jumper, it doesn’t matter to him, he just wants to make the smartest play he can.
#11 Mason Matteson and #23 Quentin Harrison- H&H Elite 17U
H&H Elite is a team whose record does not show just talented they really are. In the GrindSZNKickoff they started it out Friday evening with a 20-point loss against All Arkansas Red but really showed up in Saturday’s morning game. They were able to keep the game close for the most part with the help of Mason Matteson and Quentin Harrison but still fell short at the end closing 68-70. Mason had great morning with 21 point effort to lead the team but it was Quentin’s timely baskets that gave them the momentum towards the end of the game to keep them in it.
#3 Nathan Barksdale and #10 Karin Eldawy- Texas Supreme Kings 16U
Texas Supreme Kings are definitely one the teams that people don’t want to play. They are extremely scrappy and are hard to stop once they start to settle into the game. In their Saturday morning game against Beyond Ball Next Up they looked focus and ready to play. After a close first half, they realized how much better they actually were the other team behind the play if Nathan Barksdale and Karin Eldawy. Karin’s play won’t show up in the stat sheet because he did all the dirty work, diving for balls that led to steals or stepping up to rotate on defense when nobody else did. Nathan seemed to benefit the most of those 50/50 balls. TSK won, and he finished the game with a solid 18 points and the win.
#2 Ladarrius Glover and #32 Matthew Nkuku- Texas Takeover Elite-Mackey
It was a long Saturday for this Texas Takeover Team after having no games Friday. Early this morning they got a smacked with a 19-point loss to Oklahoma Swarm right away, it was obvious they needed to get themselves to together. Which is exactly what they did for the next two games on the heels of Ladarrius Glover and Matthew Nkuku. Those two are a great pair for the type of basketball that is played in the summer. Both have high motors, can score in multiple ways and just refuse to get scored on. Those are the types of attitudes that can boost the morale of a team which can help generate wins.
