The 6-foot-5 Sierra Canyon senior, who scored 16 points two days earlier during the Jordan Brand Classic in the Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena, had “final” list of three programs – Oregon, Kansas and UCLA – for quite a while before Coach Mike Krzyzewski and his staff got involved with Stanley, who attend Harvard-Westlake as a freshman and sophomore.
Stanley joins Minnesota forward Matthew Hurt (a McDonald’s All-American who committed to the Blue Devils) last week, as well as fellow McD’s AAs Vernon Carey (a center from Ft. Lauderdale) and Wendell Moore (a forward from Concord, NC) and San Diego guard Boogie Ellis – the last three of which signed National Letters of Intent in November.
With three freshmen standouts – John R. Wooden Award winner Zion Williamson, as well as fellow soon-to-be NBA lottery selections – already passing on sophomore seasons at Duke, at least three of the five recruits are likely to find their way into the starting lineup in November.
Stanley, the CIF Southern Section Open Division Player of the Year as a senior, has always been a spectacular, high-flying athlete but his jump shooting, ball-handling, passing and defense each but steady climbs over four seasons.
