College Commitment: Taylor Pomeroy (2019 Franklin HS)
Taylor Pomeroy is ready to move on. An a First Team All-PIL year at Franklin High School, the all-around 6-foot-2, 165-pound combo guard started to get in touch with college programs about joining forces for next year. After looking at a number of different possibilities, Pomeroy committed to play in the NWAC not too far from his Southeast Portland home.
On Thursday, Pomeroy signed with Lower Columbia College in Longview, Washington. “I chose Lower Columbia because I really appreciated the effort that Coach Polis took to recruit me,” Pomeroy said. “Over time Coach Polis and I built a good relationship and after visiting the campus and watching them play I already had a good idea of this being a place where I was comfortable and want to attend.”
Pomeroy picked Lower Columbia over interest from several other NWAC schools as well as some Division III programs. One of the selling points for Pomeroy was the opportunity he would get to achieve his personal and basketball goals.
“Coach Polis told me that I would be able to have access to the gym whenever I want which was something that i wanted to help me develop my game,” Pomeroy said. “I liked the fact that LCC isn’t too far but it’s far enough where I’m isolated enough to just focus on hoop and school and not have a ton of distractions. I just felt it would be the best place to get me to a 4 year school after my time at Lower Columbia.”
The opportunity to contribute immediately was also enticing and Pomeroy notes that they plan on utilizing him as a scorer, but also developing his point guard skills at the same time. He knows that NWAC play is extremely competitive and he’s gearing up this summer to get ready. “I want to get stronger definitely,” Pomeroy said. “I definitely need to develop my body more.”
As Pomeroy prepares for his future he can also look back on this past season with a lot of pride. “The complete turnaround was something I”ll never forget,” Pomeroy said. “From not winning a 6A game to be third in the PIL and making the playoffs – it will be something I won’t ever forget. We set the tone for future years (at Franklin).”
Pomeroy currently ranks as the #52 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
