Trey Alexander 2021 Team Griffin 16U/ Heritage Hall guard
Sophomore Trey Alexander had a pair of great games against Rose City Rebels (OR) and Vegas Elite (NV, respectively). Despite a tight loss in the latter matchup, Alexander was an electrifying scorer all day in the dribble-drive offense. Alexander found his way to the hole regularly thanks to extraordinary ball-handling skills and craft near the rim. I was most impressed by some of his more unorthodox shot choices that he managed to drain. At times, it seemed like the ball just gravitated towards the rim, no matter how unlikely the shot, but the results were really a product of Alexander’s touch. As an on-ball guard, Alexander also excelled in the passing game. He made smart decisions in motion and did a great job of finding the open man on the cut from the wing and adjusted to Vegas Elite’s 1-3-1 zone.
JV Seat 2022 Team Griffin 15U/ Edmond Memorial forward
JV Seat showed off an impressive repertoire of his scoring abilities Saturday evening. Seat and co. took a narrow loss against an impressive Strive 4 Greatness (CA) team early Saturday before gaining redemption in a 15-point win over Woodz Elite (AR). In both games, Seat was able to impose his will on opposing bigs thanks to his footwork. Seat is workhorse in the low post and capitalizes from his strength to back down opponents before receiving the ball and making a move to the hole. He even stretched the defense out with a couple outside shots to keep things exciting. Defensively, he was tasked in the early game with guarding a considerably-taller center. Seat rose to the occasion and successfully limited his adversary by playing tough, rebounding the miss, and keeping the ball above the block.
Talyn Shettron 2022 Team Griffin 15U/ Edmond Santa Fe guard
If you’re from Oklahoma, you may know Talyn Shettron as one of the most touted recruits in the 2022 football class. If you saw him Saturday, however, you saw a hooper with a versatile skill-set, great body control and tremendous athleticism. Shettron helped his team today by keeping up with a high tempo, fast-paced game and pushing his team on fast-breaks; defending the ball and helping on the defensive end; and scoring when he needs to. He even showed off his athleticism with a crushing dunk in transition against Woodz Elite (AR) that gave his team a surge of energy and made LeBron James himself take a double-take (no, seriously). Shettron also passed the ball exceptionally-well in transition and allowed his teammates to make plays.
