The below guys made impacts on both ends of the floor, with some showcasing their shot-blocking abilities while others scored the basketball in the paint well. Regardless, the 5 players below were the 5 post players that impressed me most Sunday at the Bearcat Classic.
Anthony Felder (2020) Shroder- Cincinnati Heat
Felder impressed me with his ability to run the floor during their game against Ohio Stars Sunday. Cincy Heat’s big man played with tremendous athleticism and specifically handled the basketball well on the perimeter. He was able to finish posting up as well as using the dribble drive.
Zach Benton (2020) Ryle- Apex 17U Gold
One of Apex’s top performers from their victory against OEBA, Benton was one of the top low post threats during the day and was a menace on the defensive end. A big bodied center, Benton altered shots with his length and his presence in the paint. Definitely one of the better post players to watch as the spring continues.
Maro Egodotaye (2021) Carroll- Team Flyght
Although Team Flyght has a ton of athleticism and plenty of talent, it was Maro that impressed me most. A 6’8” center, he was by far one of the biggest guys in the gym. During my time watching, Maro offensively was able to score in the paint and played especially well squared up to the basket. I would like to see how he performs with his back to the basket and would like to see him improve a bit on the defensive end.
Isaac Farah (2020) Cathedral- Club Ohio
Another low post presence on display Sunday, Farah played well with his back to the basket and used his upper body to create separation and finished well. Defensively, he contested every shot in the paint and overall made his presence known. The lefty is built like a Tight End and should impress colleges with his size and skillset.
Garret Powell (2019) Springboro- Apex 17U Gold
Although Powell is a forward, he made his presence known in the low post for Apex. While teammate Zach Benton was more of a defensive presence, Powell gave them the offensive spark. A tough competitor, Garret played well through contact when he possessed the ball in the paint. Able to score inside or out on the dribble drive, Powell is one of the better unsigned seniors still available and used this past weekend to continue to prove that.
