When watching games on Sunday at the Bearcat Classic, I felt the wings for most teams were the most impressive. I especially like wing players that can score from any level and show versatility defending multiple positions. Several of the guys below have good size and can do just that. Offensively all wings mentioned showed they could get the ball in the bucket consistently and at will. Here are my top wing players from Sunday.
Evan Brunot (2020) McNicholas- Club Ohio
Brunot was a solid perimeter player on Sunday on both ends of the floor. Defensively, he can guard 1-3 with his great footwork and size. Lengthy at 6’4 and played with toughness. Offensively, he showed off a nice midrange jump shot, but ultimately impressed with his ability to get in the paint off the dribble drive. I would like to see his inside game more, especially in post-up situations as I did not see much of it in Club Ohio’s game.
Jamal Hayes (2020) North Farmington- Tranzition
Hayes was by far one of the most athletic guys on the floor. Possessing a ton of bounce, Hayes used his vertical leap to rebound the basketball aggressively as well as make strong plays at the rim. When he has the ball on the perimeter, Hayes has an explosive 1st step that allows him to get in the paint with ease. I like his offensive game as a whole, but I would like to see his outside shot more.
Trey Robinson (2020) Hamilton- Apex 17U Gold
Another big guard with a ton of athletic potential. Standing at 6’6, Trey plays aggressive which allows him to guard perimeter players, but also defend bigger 2 guards and forwards. Robinson has nice offensive skill, especially playing close to the rim. During a win against OEBA, he seemed to dunk every ball within a foot of the rim.
Antwon Campbell Jr. (2020) Copley- SMAC Attack
Antwon is a tough wing on the offensive end. Utilizing a very nice hesitation move on the dribble drive, Campbell earned most of his points in the paint, a common theme for wings on Sunday. I didn’t see him take many jump shots which I would like to see more of moving forward.
Patrick Ivory (2021)- Northmont Team Flyght
This Team Flyght team has a ton of talent and lots of athleticism at all positions. On the wing, Ivory impressed me with his patience on the offensive end. He didn’t rush shots nor did he seem to force anything whether it be dribble drive or making passes. Defensively, he didn’t do a bad job at all, but I would like to see him show more aggressiveness on both ends of the floor.
