Darrian Leu-Pierre — Grandview
Leu-Pierre is one of those players that absolutely owns showcases. He can score in every single way and has the size and ability to create mismatches and attack them. He is a downhill player that scored at will and got to the rim and either finished at the basket or drew a foul. He uses his length to see over smaller defenders and he is a shot creator that is either going to score over the top or find the open man. When he gets in a rhythm it is tough to slow him down. He also showed that he is a solid rebounder that many should keep an eye on a an unsigned senior looking for an opportunity, he had a great day.
Aj LaCabe—Vista Peak
Blame it on it being his home gym that the showcase was at or whatever you have to do but he was one of the elite scorers on the day. He destroyed in iso situations and scores well on an island. He creates off of the dribble and finishes with either hand at the rim. Multiple times he went on scoring flurries where he would put together three straight baskets and give his group a chance to win games. He showed off a smooth jump shot as well and is very comfortable as a playmaker. He was one of the best scorers on the day.
Yusuf Washington – Denver East
Want to talk about a player that plays with confidence, look no further. Washington was one of the players that attacked every single matchup he was against. He did not back down and challenged every defender who stepped in front of him. He showed off his freaky athleticism and is a player that has intriguing upside as he has not reached his full potential. He finished well with both hands and used his long arms on both ends of the floor to either deflect a pass, get a steal or rebound and go with the ball. He is a playmaker that knows his strengths and attacks the defenders weaknesses and this is. Abig summer for the unsigned senior to make some noise as schools were asking about him at the showcase.
Clayton Findley Ponds — Denver East
Denver East showed up to the showcase as Findley Ponds was one of the most athletic players at the event. He is long but under control and showed off springy bounce to lead his team all day. He had a few open court flushes, ran the offense, played well off ball and was a facilitator that understood situations. He scored when he wanted to and once he penetrated the defense it was a basket. He scored at ease and even showed off a bit of range. Intriguing prospect.
Colin Dean—Brady
Brady was a player that I did not know coming in but once he got on the court was a standout scorer that did it in multiple ways. He shot lights out and did not turn down many shots as one of the higher scorers on the day. He went through a spurt that he knocked down multiple 3-pointers in a row and that opened things up for other players as he really spaced the floor. Was interesting to see him against other top guys from other classifications as he more than held his own.
