Ben Grusing- Mountain Vista
This season was a coming out party for Ben Grusing of Mountain Vista and he continued a dominant year with a solid showing at the showcase. One thing that Grusing plays with is control. He does not t urn the ball over, does not force much and is a guard that you feel comfortable with when he has the ball as the ball is going to find its way into the basket. He picks the defense a part with decisive decisions and is a guard that makes the right play every time down. He can score in multiple ways but he is a penetrator with a high IQ. He was able to score at will and also find the open man with a precision pass.
Sebastian Campbell- Palisade
Campbell is a guard that is always on the attack. He is a quick guard that puts the ball on the floor and picks apart the defense with high energy. He is a downhill runner that sets guys up and is willing to take chances as he did with some great passes. He gets to the rim and finishes and is a player that brings the best out of his team as he is a leader. He is tenacious on the defensive end as well as he picks up full court and makes the offensive player work. At the showcase he was able to show that he could knock down shots when open, run the offense and also rebounded well but all-in-all he is an aggressive guard that schools should take a look at.
Lian Ramiro—Grandview
Ramiro remains one of the smoothest players in the state as he is able to control the game with his ball handling abilities. He breaks his defender down and then gets to the rim and finishes or drops it off to an open man. He stays on the attack and is a great distributor. At the showcase he was also able to show that he has a bit of range as well as he was able to knock down shots. He is a playmaker that makes things happen with the ball in his hands but also can move well without the ball. He got everyone involved opened things up for others as a standout at the event that had colleges asking who he was.
Jaylen Eikenburg— Rock Canyon
With Eikenburg it is the same stuff. He was the top perimeter defender in the gym as he typically was and he also controlled things on offense. He is a player that is always under control and plays well on and off ball. In the showcase he played a lot off ball and was able to show that he could knock down shots which was different for him as he was the primary ball handler this year. He is ultra-aggressive on both ends of the floor and make others around him better. He is the perfect complement to any team as I believe whatever you ask him to do he can do. Very high on Eikenburg.
Demarcus Zaragoza –Heritage
Zaragoza made our list as a new name yesterday but he was also a top guard at the event as he really showed leadership qualities and made others around him better. He got everyone involved but was also able to get himself going which led to some easy baskets. He was great in transition as he ran the break to perfection and hit open guys as he kept his head on the swivel. He brought other intangibles to the game as he rebounded well as well as showcased his strength on larger defenders. He is a player that could help many small schools as he is an unsigned senior with high upside.
Davion Davis— Manual
With Davis you have to take the good with the bad as he is one of the quickest guards in the state that creates for others. He might make a turnover but he is going to work tirelessly on the other end of the floor to get the ball back and make up for his mistake with two extra assists. He is a player that makes others around him better as he has great court vision and is a willing passer but gets to the rim almost better than any other guard in the state with a very quick first step. He is a pest defensively and is one of the better perimeter defenders in the state. He is coming off of leading his team to a championship and with him you know you are going to get his all on almost every possession. At the showcase he was able to show that he could run the offense, get others open and finish. Going to be an interesting summer for him with the Kingz.
