Jaedon Bowles — Manual
Bowles automatically standouts in every gym that he is at because of his great size. He has a very mature game and the game seems to slow down for him. He does not force shots and even in the midst of a trap, press or double team he is always under control. In a showcase setting there are not many double-teams so it is his time to feast and he had a great day scoring the basketball. He was one of the better shooters on the day, got into the open court and finished with a few dunks, got to his spots on offense scored and he is one of the state’s best scorers from all three levels. All of that was evident as he showed exactly what makes him special. One of the things that really stood out was his passing. He had some of the best passes on the day that is not necessarily seen on a player that averaged over 20 points a game on the year and broke the state record for points in the playoffs. He was a top three player on the day.
Quincey Jewett—Rangeview
Jewett showed up when it mattered. He was coached by a NJC assistant coach so it made complete sense when they signed him to go to their school after the event. He was his typical self, lock down defense, patrol the paint, rebound at a high level and score at the rim. Jewett was the standout big man on the day and in matchups that were supposed to be interesting dominated the other bigs which only helped him get signed. He is going to be great at the next level and with a good day it was just the icing on the cake for NJC.
Darien Myers – Palmer
Myers might have been the best shooter in the gym at the showcase as he got good looks all day and was not afraid to let it fly. He is a natural scorer that gets it done in every single way and when his shot is falling as it was at the event he becomes one of the most difficult players in the state to defend. He attacked every player that was put in front of him and also ran the offense well. One thing that stood out was the way he got others involved and with him generating so much attention he was able to find the open man for easy lay-ins. Myers is excellent off ball but is able to break defenders down with his ball handling abilities with the skill to create for himself even over taller defenders. Myers will not be an unsigned senior for long with what I seen at the showcase but he should have a bit of fun in his final grassroots season before going to help a college.
Chase Hettinger – Castle View
Hettinger looks to be a man on a mission as he had another dominant performance on the day. He started out slow but as the day went on he was one of the biggest standouts on the day. He does it all. Rebounds, defends, extends the defense with his shot, distributes, gets to the rim and finishes and had a few highlight dunks as well. He is able to use his body to take over and he is a comfortable scorer that knows when to get it done. He senses mismatches, forces the switch and after that there is most liklely a basket. He took on the challenges of defending some of the other top players at the event and when he is locked in and focuses there are not many players in the state that can change the outcome of the game as he can. I am truly shocked that he is a unsigned senior for this long and it is going to be a long summer for opposing teams.
Landon Wallace – Conifer
A player that it was my first time seeing that became one of my personal favorites is Wallace. Wallace has the best court vision in the state – by far. He runs the offense to perfection and it does not matter who he is playing with he is going to make the right play and his IQ is off of the charts so the play will most likely end in a basket. He analyzes the defense, knows where his guys are going to be and gets it to them in stride each time. When he was not dishing he was knocking down shots and is one of the most intriguing players I have seen. He is undersized but makes up for it with intelligent plays as he penetrated the defense and either finished through traffic or found an open man. On defense he stays in front of his man with solid perimeter defense, showed off strength and held his own. It was interesting to see a player with his kind of vision mix it up with other athletic guys of this caliber and he looked like he enjoyed showcasing the type of floor general he is. If you have not taken a look at him yet make sure that you do.
Jabriel Brown– Gateway
If there was a MVP on the day, this was it. He had himself a showcase and was the most athletic player in the gym. He had countless highlight plays and connected on plenty of lob passes, everything that went up he went and got. Brown is ultra-athletic and also is able to dribble which opens things up for him because he is able to jump over guys for the rebound, start the fast break and either go get an alley oop or come down the lane and throw it himself. He also knocked down a few shots, showed that he can switch it up and pull up for a few mid-range jumpers and he is a player with a high ceiling that a good coach will have a field day with alongside a solid guard. Brown owned the day and turned a few heads in doing so.
Curtis Stovall – Vista Peak
Stovall is a bucket. He can score however you would like and is a player that challenges himself on both ends of the floor. He is a downhill player that is able to stop on a dime for a pull up or find an open man. He is a confident shooter that gets to the rim very easy and finishes with either hand. He has a very quick first step and displayed great ball handling capabilities. He scored in bunches, grabbed rebounds, found the open man and is a player that you can put in any system to either be a dominant ball handler or he can work alongside a good guard as he is a great slasher that has a good feel for the game. Very solid outing this weekend that will have an anticipated grassroots season as well as senior season next year.
Trevor Baskins – Pomona
Baskins is one of the most skilled big guys in the state that it is going to be interesting to watch this summer and at the next level. With his tall and slender stature you do not expect him to do some of the things that he is capable of doing and at the showcase he put it all on the table. Great court vision, back to the basket game, knocked down jumpers, elite rebounder – Baskins is the real deal. He demands so much attention that other guys get open and he is one of the few big men that hit the open man. To only be a junior he has so much in his arsenal and it is going to be a busy summer for him that I know that he is excited for and he will be moving up on our updated rankings list and will surely be a player that garners attention from the next level as schools asked about him already.
