There are a number of top teams from around the Midwest in town from Hoop City to Wildcats Select. For our focus of Indiana prospects, we dive into a few that stood out this evening.
Dawson Eastes – 6’5 PF 2020 – New Palestine (IN) / IE East 2020
Started off hot from the field, handling the ball and playing on the perimeter very well. He knocked down an early three and had a couple drives into the middle of the floor. He’s quite a bit better moving and creating offense for himself and teammates. Thought he could be a really creative 4-man that has the flexibility to play in the post. If the touch on his jumper is a mainstay, small school programs could be all over him.
Andrew Welage – 6’7 SF 2020 – Greensburg (IN) / IE East 2020
Welage is a long, lean forward that has the handles to make plays but is suited better to be a position breakdown guy where he can be more skilled wing going against a less skilled wing. Jumper wasn’t completely on tonight but he did show some driving ability and creation in the mid-range. Upside is big because he has so much length and size. Is probably still growing much like his older brother did. Wanted to see a little bit more refined offensive game.
Jake Friel – 6’1 PG 2020 – Hebron (IN) / MBA Select 2020
Jake is a tall lead guard who can drive to setup really well. Although, there were times tonight when he probably should have just taken the play himself. He’s not super quick into the lane but deceptive and handles the ball well enough he doesn’t rack up turnovers. He’s got a great frame and is definitely tough enough.
Edreece Redmond – 5’10 PG 2020 – Bishop Chatard (IN) / IE North 2020
This was a game that showed some of the good parts of his game. He’s quick and adept at getting into the lane. He’s also a pretty solid shooter but considerably better as a guy that has space and can be moving into a jumper rather than completely set. He’s also a high-end shooter off the catch as opposed to the pull-up. Not that he can’t hit but the percentage is much higher.
Carter Hickey – 6’1 SG 2020 – Penn (IN) / MBA Select 2020
Carter is a solid off-guard who really showed his touch and range. Was good when he was looking to pull up off the bounce or the catch. He’s got some handles and used it well a couple times to get into the lane but much more suited as a perimeter shooter. Good touch, quick release.
Carson Barrett – 6’5 SF 2020 – Lafayette Central Catholic (IN) / Indiana Ice 2020
Carson continued to show his do-it-all ability. He was tremendous with his rebounding, grabbing an easy double-digit rebounding total pretty quickly. He’s struggling to breakdown lengthy defenders as he’s playing so much on the ball. But, put into better situations he’s pretty much the most difficult person on the floor to stop. He’s so tough in and around the rim. His full court speed did look improved, just not as quick with the ball in his hands.
Rowen Farrell – 6’4 SG 2020 – McCutcheon (IN) / Indiana Ice 2020
Really solid showing from Rowen his more well-rounded game. A year ago, he was trying to expand from being just a shooter. While he does it at the same high level, he has been quite a bit better with his driving game. Still learning to pick his spots but overall, better than a year ago. Does more working along the baseline than from the top of the key in that regard.
Malik Stanley – 5’11 PG 2021 – Warren Central (IN) / EG10 2021
Malik is a going to be an interesting case to watch. Young guard on a senior heavy team and now he’s going to get the chance to see his offense develop. He showed some of that off in this game with his catch-and-shoot ability. Hit a pair of threes early in the game. He also showed much more maturity and toughness which isn’t that surprising with how he has played this last year.
Jaden Thomas – 6’2 SG 2021 – International (IN) / EG10 2021
Jaden is a tall guard who can score the ball in a lot of ways. Wasn’t one dimensional at all in this game and he loves to attack quickly if possible. He’s so good off the bounce looking to pull-up or drive. Can be a little too shot happy and off balance with his release. When under control, he’s really solid on the wing. Could be a high-volume scorer just needs to improve the efficiency a touch.
