Some of the players who shined:
2019
D’Maurian Williams PG 6’4 1/2″ Westview HS (Factory)
-Williams is somehow still available. You had opposing coaches telling Coach Mullins, how is this kid still available–he is so good. That was the case in last weeks out of town tourney and more the same Wednesday night. He is a downhill nightmare but has really worked on his perimeter shooting. He is way more consistent from the 3pt line and he can pull-up anytime he wants off the dribble. Once he gets a crease into the lane, its two or he will get fouled. He rebounds well, makes others better and is a physical defender. He may not have that elite speed but his IQ, strength, pace to his game and improved skill are definitely D-1 worthy of a scholarship.
Mamane Yaou PF 6’7″ Tri-City Christian (Factory)
-Yaou is another senior receiving D-1 interest. High academic schools are interested in the long forward. He is a very good rebounder in his area and can step out to the 3pt line and in. He can play with his back to the basket and score it on drop steps and hook shots. He is just starting to get his legs under him and is starting to dunk the ball from an injury. Ideally it would be best for him to red-shirt or prep.
Timmy Johnson SF 6’3″ Westwood (Prime Basketball)
-Johnson (pictured on the cover to the right) is a walking bucket. He makes the game look easy. He can score it from all 3 levels with a nice handle. He loves the pull-up off the dribble from mid-range. He changes speeds with his dribble and the lefty can score it from inside with his right or left. He seems to slither his way into the lane almost at will during stretches of the game. Another high academic player looking for a school.
Doc Self PG 5’10” Gilbert (Prime Basketball)
-Self is a fast lead guard. He is normally looking to make the correct play for his team to succeed. He then gets in scoring mode where he is tough to stop. He has the pull-up off the bounce, the deep ball plus he can use his jets to turn the corner and get into the lane to score. He also has a nice floater game to utilize.
Jake Ehmann SF 6’3″ Gilbert (Prime Basketball)
-Ehmann keeps improving on every viewing. He recently received an Arizona Christian Univ offer and is garnering interest from Adams State and a few other schools. He is very tough and skilled. He may be a little undersized but he can shoot it, he rebounds at a high rate in his area and handles the ball well. He can cover a bigger player inside the paint plus slide his feet to defend on the perimeter.
2020
Dominic Gonzalez SG 6’3″ Ironwood HS (Factory)
-Gonzalez is a bucket. He has a smooth jumper and quick release. He has great length to collect steals. He is still on the thinner side but makes up for it with his IQ, high skill and feel for the game. He has improved making others better and taking the ball to the basket and getting cheap points at the FT line. He was the second leading scorer of the night with 23 points and is set up for a good live period next weekend.
Gonzalez and Williams had incredible games last night.Anthony Irvin SG 6’3″ Corona del Sol (Prime Basketball)
-Irvin (pictured on the cover to the left) is another top-tier shooter. He has deep range, quick trigger and like a QB who just threw a pick, if he missed, the next one is going up. He’s a very confident player and has put on good weight and strength on in the last year or so at 175 lbs. He has a good feel for the game and looks to make some noise as well next week.
Matt Jensen CG 5’11” Mountain Ridge (AZ Wild)
-Jensen’s team did lose but not for a lack of effort by him. he scored 14 points efficiently and made others better during the process. He has good strength and is quick with the ball. He can change speeds to get defenders off balanced and can hit pull-ups from mid to the 3pt line. Jensen should have a breakout year in the HS season.
Brandon Youngkrantz PF 6’4″ Cactus Shadows (AZ Wild)
-Youngkrantz was another who held his own in the loss. He is very tough and strong deep in the paint with good hands. He also is skilled to face-up to 17-feet and in. He smartly moves without the ball and gets to his spots on the floor to be most successful. He knows what he can or can’t do and plays within the flow of the offense.
