New 6A Teams:
Corner Canyon – Moving Up
Skyridge – Moved Up
Jordan – Moved Up
West – Moved Up
Quick Notes: With these teams moving up to 6A from 5A it really creates another powerful region in Region 3 as Bingham has joined the region. The Bingham vs, Copper Hills rivalry returns. Corner Canyon and Skyridge join Region 4 which adds to their power. Jordan will join 6A with a competitive team coming back. Skyridge also returns a lot of key players. Corner Canyon graduates a lot of players and they will remain a question mark till the season ensues. West is the last team to move to 6A and we wish them luck.
New 5A Teams:
Hillcrest – Moving Down
Lehi– Moved Up
Mountain Ridge – New School
Mountain View – Moving Up
Orem – Moving Up
Park City – Moved Up
Payson – Moved Up
Salem Hills – Moved Up
Spanish Fork – Moved Up
Bonneville– Moved Up
Quick Notes: 5A has a ton of moving parts and some for the better. Park City was hoping to be placed in Region 6 so that they could just drop into Salt Lake but they are in the Utah County Region 8. This seems like a more competitive region for the Miners in the long run. .Hillcrest is the lone 6A team to move down and they will be in a tougher region than they were in before. Mountain View, Orem and Lehi join Region 7 along with Mountain Ridge the new high school in Herriman. Alta is in a good position in this region. Payson, Salem Hills and Spanish Fork will join Region 8. Bonneville leaves one of the worst regions and joins Region 5 that will be tough as nails. 5A will be wide open next year.
New 4A Teams:
Crimson Cliffs – New School
Quick Notes: 4A has lost a lot of luster with teams moving up. Crimson Cliffs will join the St, George Region 9.
With the addition to some region changes we will also have an RPI system that will determine seeding for every single high school team in the state. I get the idea of letting every team play in the playoffs but it seems like it will just prolong the inevitable. in 1A you already see some teams with less talent try to hurt players from other teams and it would be a shame to see that in the higher classifications. The everyone gets a shot has now taken over the playoffs in Utah. A team that wins no games will now travel to Lone Peak or Jordan High School which makes no sense. There is a lot of flaws in the new system but we look forward to see them play out.
