1. Jaden Seymour, Team Charlotte, 2020 Forward
6-foot-8 forward Jaden Seymour played like a man possessed in the paint this past weekend. He played above the rim, finishing a number of thunderous dunks against Team CP3 (Nike) and Team Felton (Under Armour), though his squad fell 74-71 to CP3 in the end.
Seymour played a lot more aggressive with the ball in his hands and his teammates did a good job of establishing him in the post in the early going. He’s one player who’s stock should rise tremendously on the summer circuit.
2. Shakeel Moore, Team CP3, 2020 Point Guard
If you’re looking for an athletic, strong point guard, look no further than Shakeel Moore. He’s 6-foot-1 but a stocky 185 pounds and loves to get to the rim and finish with authority. Moore is another player who should see his stock rise a bit this summer on the EYBL circuit.
He finished with 24 points against Team Felton and 13 points against Team Charlotte as the team’s floor general. With another stud in the backcourt, Moore should have a solid campaign this summer to raise his status.
3. Kharye Cayne, Juice All-Stars NC , 2020 Center
Kharye Cayne is a big man listed at 6-foot-9 for the Juice All-Stars and he’s developing into quite the two-way threat in the paint. Cayne is a shot block artist around the rim. During the weekend, he averaged more than 3+ blocks in each game for them. He uses his size and length to his advantage on defense and is learning to stay out of foul trouble.
On offense, he can run the floor on the fastbreak as well as stretch the floor with his ability to shoot the 3-point shot. Around the rim, he finishes everything he touches. He’s a player to keep an eye as he mulls a postgraduate year potentially at Carolina Basketball Academy next season.
4. Terquavion Smith, Team CP3, 2021 Guard
NC State-bound 2021 guard Terquavion Smith had his arsenal of moves on full display this weekend. The 6-foot-4 guard is playing for Team CP3 16U squad and in their opening game of the weekend, he led the way with 21 points.
He made two 3-pointers to go along with some tough finishes at the rim, including the And-One variety, as they cruised to victory against Phoenix Elite 17U squad. Smith is a versatile threat on the wing with length to go along with it.
5. Cam Hayes, Team CP3, 2021 Guard
2021 guard Cam Hayes is due for a breakout season on the EYBL circuit. He’s playing 17U, but that shouldn’t slow him down as he’s a confident scorer with the ball in his hands.
Hayes scored in a variety of ways against Team Charlotte and Team Felton during the weekend showcase games, showing off his ability to shoot the 3 and finish at the rim. He’s got a solid guard to work off of with Shakeel Moore in the backcourt and as they learn to play together, look for them to be a dangerous duo this EYBL season.
Honorable Mentions:
Tristan Maxwell, Team Charlotte, 2020 Guard
When he’s locked in, he can shoot the cover off the basketball. That was the case against Team CP3, as he knocked down five 3-pointers against them.
Andrew Shull, Team Renegades, 2020 Guard
Andrew Shull is one of those players that will make you pay if you leave him open but he’s also a lethal scorer off the dribble as well. He’s got point guard skills to go with his 3-point shooting ability too.
Michael Dulin, Carolina Riptide , 2021 Guard
Michael Dulin stepped up big this weekend with 23 points against a bigger Team CP3 squad. He scored from behind the arc and attacked the basket, showing off his aggressiveness on offense.
Amag Kareem Tate, NC Go Hard, 2020 Wing
Amag Kareem Tate poured in 33 points for his NC Go Hard 17U squad as they defeated Phoenix Elite 64-57. He was relentless all game long as he showed off his ability to finish in the paint and even made three 3-pointers in the victory.
