For a lot of kids, this is their last AAU season. Every year on the circuits, kids climb the rankings and blast onto the scene. Check out these top performers from this weekend.
Shannon Grant (Alabama Celtics)- This kid is a monster! Grant stands at a legit 6’10 275. He takes up space in the lane. Grant is equipped with soft hands and finishes well around the basket. This kid keeps balls alive and is active on the glass. Needs to improve his body, athleticism, and stay on the court longer. Definitely a prospect to keep you eyes on.
Ryshod Keith (Alabama Celtics)- This kid is a 6’5 deadeye shooter. Keith has excellent size on the perimeter, and you can not give him space. In one game this weekend, Keith was 7/9 from 3. The next step in his development is improving his playmaking and consistently scoring at all 3 levels.
Zane Nelson (Hawks Elite)- The 6’2 guard was scoring at will this weekend. Nelson is a 3 level scorer and can play on/off the ball. He is deceptively athletic. Underrated aspects of his game are his defensive awareness and creating shots off the bounce.
KJ Byrd (West Alabama Thunder)- Byrd is an athletic combo guard. This weekend, he showed the ability to get to the rim, knock down open shots, and he showed off his athleticism. This is also an absolute bulldog on the ball defensively.
Dan Parker (AYSA Tuscaloosa)- Parker showed how you can impact a game by doing more than score. While he showed his scoring ability, the 6’1 guard also showed off his rebounding ability, defensive awareness, and his playmaking ability. Parker did an excellent job finding teammates for easy buckets and open shots.
Titus Griffin (Nike Elite Stars)- Griffin is one the best shooters in the state, and a college prospect to watch this spring/summer. At 6’1 he can play both guards. He has really good vision, feel for the game, and the kid plays extremely well without the ball. Titus is not the best athlete, but he has shown improvements defensively and as a playmaker early this grassroots season.
Wren Cole (Nike Elite Stars)- Like his teammate, Cole is an interesting prospect to watch. This kid is deceptively athletic and equipped with a burner. Cole understands the game and competes every time he hits the floor. Showing defensive improvements and playmaking ability will go a long way for this athlete.
