After with a lot of shuffling and new additions to the group, we are beginning to turn the page on the class of 2019 as they graduate and head to college in the next month or two. Here’s a breakdown of the top small forwards and wings in the 2019 class.
The Top 5:
- Dontaie Allen, Pendleton County – Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball was on pace for a record season before an ACL tear ended his Senior year before the calendar turned to 2019. Still, Dontaie ended with one of the best careers of anyone in Kentucky in recent memory and is headed to UK next season to play for Coach Calipari and the Wildcats.
- James Nicholas, Hopkinsville – Heading to NAIA Cumberland College in Tennessee for college, Nicholas had a solid bounce back season for the Tigers after missing the end of his Junior year due to knee injury. James is very athletic and should settle in nicely at the NAIA level next year.
- Carson Guthrie, Mayfield – One of Western Kentucky’s top Seniors, Carson has had a lot of interest from college programs at every level but at last check, Guthrie was leaning to not playing in college. Regardless of his next move, Carson had a great season and combined with a Senior heavy team to get the Cardinals to Rupp Arena.
- Trey Meister, Scott – One of the hardest playing kids I’ve evaluated the last few years, Meister is going to play his college ball at Capital University. Trey is going to have chances to compete right away next year and should have a solid college career.
- Jamil Hardaway, Trinity – One of Kentucky’s best unsigned Seniors left on the board, Jamil played a pivotal role for the Rocks as a Senior and helped to get them to a State Championship. Hardaway’s best basketball is ahead of him as he should play more as a wing and not be stuck in the post as much as he was at Trinity.
Other Names to Know:
- TaQuan Hollowell, University Heights Academy – Ending his career as a 1,000 point scorer, Hollowell has a great motor.
- Anthony Adkins, LaRue County – Heading to play football at West Point, Adkins leadership is a big reason LaRue has been so good the last few years.
- Tyler Fleek, Covington Catholic – Often lost in the shuffle at Cov Cath, Fleek is a big wing who will help some college.
- Devaunte Robinson, Ashland – Heading to Campbellsville, Robinson finally showed how good he can be in propelling his school to Rupp.
- Richard Ninamou, Seneca – One of the better athletes around, Richard is long and a terrific defender who could blossom in college.
