After with a lot of shuffling and new additions to the group, we are beginning to turn the page on the class of 2019 as they graduate and head to college in the next month or two. Here’s a breakdown of the top post players in the 2019 class.
The Top 5:
- Isaiah Cozart, Madison Central – Ending his career as the state’s all time shot blocking leader and around 60% field goal percentage, Isaiah is headed to Western Kentucky for the next 4 years. After making tremendous strides on the offensive end over the 4 years of high school, Cozart ended up a talented low block scorer in addition to a disruption on defense.
- Kyle Rode, Lexington Christian Academy – Kyle broke a lot of records in Lexington over his 5 year varsity career at LCA. The record book at LCA is basically just a recap of Kyle’s career. Rode could be a contributor for Liberty early in next season and will be a big part of future success for the Flames.
- Michael Moreno, Scott County – Michael ended his career at Scott County with a lot of points, rebounds and wins. Michael likely goes down as one of the biggest winners in school and KHSAA history. Still the best player available in 2019 in Kentucky, Moreno will be an early contributor wherever he lands next season, provided his foot injury has healed up.
- Dieonte Miles, Walton-Verona – Mr. Potential finally started to turn the corner as a Senior. Dieonte has long been a good shot blocker but not a remarkable rebounder or scorer until this season. Miles still has a ways to go and could be a candidate for a redshirt season next year at Xavier but time will tell. His ceiling is very high moving forward.
- Jacob Hobbs, Central Hardin – On the other end of the spectrum, Hobbs maximizes everything he can by playing with an incredible motor. Jacob will stuff the stat sheet and as his focus has shifted to the basketball court over the last 12-18 months, Hobbs has become a much better player and will do well at Lipscomb the next four years.
Other Names to Know:
- Darius Osborne, Pleasure Ridge Park – One of the better unsigned Seniors in the state, Darius’ best basketball lies ahead of him.
- Reid Jolly, Campbell County – Jolly is a big time winner and two sport star. He led the Camels back to Rupp again this season.
- Brennan Canada, George Rogers Clark – A 6’7 stretch 4, Canada is still available and holds a couple of D2/NAIA offers.
- Nick Thelen, Covington Catholic – Headed to Bellarmine, Thelen had a disappointing Senior year but could be a better college player than he was a high school player.
- Jamarion Sharp, Hopkinsville – Over 7 foot tall, Sharp is likely headed the Junior College route after high school and could land at a D1 in the next year or two.
