1.Dyson Kohler can only be contained
The 6’7 athletes has the body of an elite tight-end or a top tier defensive end. The problem for defenses is that he plays basketball. His skills don’t bury him on the blocks. This kid is all over the court hitting game winners from NBA range as well as floaters. We are excited to see what he adds to his bag of tricks this off-season.
2.RPI = Better Games
Last year we has some great games in the pre-season which over-hyped some teams but it also made you look twice as some teams played some dogs. Coaches who traditionally avoid some big games early will have to change they way they schedule. Looking forward to see what some of those small schools do as they seem to schedule cup cake games that will now affect their seeding.
3.Wasatch Academy will make it back to the Geico Nationals
4.New Schools
Mountain Ridge, Crimson Cliffs and Cedar Valley
Athough these three new schools will start their basketball seasons as possible underdogs, the rality is that these schools will be fine like most other schools that have been created due to growth. In the past the only schools that seem to suffer because they are new is charter schools.
5.Wide Open Field
With the exception of Layton Christian a private school that seems to bring in athletes every year the rest of the field in every classification is wide open. Sky View in 4A returns to excellent players that will make them the front runners but everyone else will be in a rebuild mode in 4A. The typical power house programs will be hurt with graduation.
6.The New Region 4
The new region 4 is just as tough if not tougher than the last region 4. We will have some new rivalries but this region will be a dog fight every game. Looking forward to watching Sky ridge and Corner Canyon compete with the perenial power house programs.
7.Fremont Back-Court can they be stopped
Dallin Hall and Baylor Harrop will have the best back court in Utah next year. I’m not sure it will be close unless we see some transfers. We are obviously excluding Wasatch Academy from this discussion.
8.UHSAA
With so many head scratching decisions and their lack of listening to high school coaches it leaves everyone baffled. We will leave it at that.
9.Attendance
After visiting many games all over the state there is a problem with attendance. Kids are being charged when they should be getting in free with their student ID’s. With the exception of the power house programs it is embarrassing to see so little effort by schools to get kids in the stands, I went to a varsity game that had more players in both teams programs than fans in the stands.
10,Way Too Early
With the season a long way away, we think that Jordan High School will be the # 1 team to start the season. They return 11 players and only lose one player that was a major contributor.

6’3 Nate Maiava

6’7 Jaxon Koehler
