Over the next couple weeks, we will highlight some of the top prospects at each position as well as some sleepers coming off big seasons who we are looking forward to evaluating in the coming months. Here is a look at some of the top point guards in the 2021 class.
Anton Brookshire – Kickapoo
Anton had a tremendous sophomore season. He was named his Conference Player of the Year as well as the Class 5 District 11 Player of the Year. He received Class 5 All-State honors and led his team to within one victory of a trip to the Show-Me-Showdown. Anton has a clutch-factor well beyond his years. Mr. Big Shot knocked down multiple game-winning shots this year and put the Chiefs on his back time and time again. He already holds offers from Missouri State, UNLV, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and other. With interest already from the Big 10 and Big 12, expect high-major offers to come pouring in for Anton this summer as he rolls with Yanders Law.
Ilyaas “Biscuit” Harris – Marquette
Ilyaas recently wrapped up a strong sophomore campaign at Marquette. He helped lead the Mustangs to a 20-6 overall record. The shifty point guard averaged 9.2 points, 4 assists, and over 2 rebounds per game while shooting 36% from beyond the arc. He scored double figures a dozen times this season including a 21 point 5 assist performance against Kirkwood. He was given 2nd Team honors in the Suburban Conference. He is ultra-quick and is an absolute pest on the defensive end.
Jeremiah Walker – DeSmet
Jeremiah had a huge season for a loaded DeSmet team that finished 23-6 in the ’18-19 campaign. He averaged 10.1 points and over 3 assists per game for the Spartans. His best game of the year came against a strong McCluer North where he amassed 20 points and 9 assists in the big victory. As Jeremiah continues to improve his range out to beyond the arc, he will be one of the more highly regarded point guards in the St. Louis area.
Brendan Deters – Troy
“Deters” is a household name in the area, and Brendan is no exception. The sophomore finished up the year with the Trojans averaging just under 11 points per game while also dropping four dimes and pulling down over three rebounds per game. Brendan is a physical slasher with excellent vision that can step out and knock it down from beyond the arc as well.
Joseph “Jo-Jo” Hardimon – Poplar Bluff
JoJo was having an great sophomore season for the Mules, averaging 11.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game before suffering a season ending injury. He is scheduled to be cleared in May and we hope to see him this summer. JoJo is a tremendous athlete who threw down some Sports Center worthy dunks this season. He had back to back big time performances against two of the best team in Arkansas, where he dropped 17 against Fayetteville and 20 against Jonesboro.
