Wednesday’s Five:
• Canal Winchester (20-4) Vs. Pickerington North (20-4): After being blown out by Pick North in the regular season, Canal Winchester will be looking to get back at the Panthers. A one-point overtime win over Dublin Jerome to open the season shows the grit that Canal is playing with. However, Pickerington North has blown their first two postseason opponents out by a combined 66 points. Playing great ball right now, Jack Sawyer will be a hand full for the Indians. Look for the Indians to double team him early and often. Brady Snyder will be the key if Canal wants to pull this one off.
• Upper Arlington (17-5) Vs. Reynoldsburg (19-5): In possibly my favorite matchup of the week, we have an elite wing matchup in Ben Fort and Max Martz. Two high level all-around players that can really fill it up, will be a delight to watch. After being on their heels against Westerville South in an OT win, Reynoldsburg will need to step it up a bit against Upper Arlington. Winning both of their postseason games by atleast 18 points so far, this will be the first big test for Upper Arlington. Both teams will have some size. However, the team that has a guard step up in this one, will have a big time advantage.
• Walnut Ridge (19-4) Vs. Newark (18-6): Von Cameron-Davis will look to go to work once again against the Wildcats Wednesday night. Walnut Ridge has ran through their first two games of the tourney pretty easily, and point guard Qian Magwood has played tough. Newark is going to play their brand of disciplined ball behind Keshawn Heard, as always. However, this one could be a thriller, played at Watkins Memorial.
• Olentangy (14-9) Vs. Hilliard Davidson (19-5): Olentangy really opened some eyes, in their big win over Northland. A game that came easy for the Braves, Sean Marks went off. The Senior will need much more of the same, against a solid Davidson team. Watch for Gage Keys to do work inside for the Wildcats, as Olentangy shouldn’t be able to slow him or Jacob Drees down. The question in this one will be, who steps up for Olentangy along side Sean Marks. Catch this D1 matchup in Marysville.
• Olentangy Orange (16-7) Vs. Dublin Coffman (22-1): This game could either be a close one, or a runaway game for the Rocks. If the Orange team that defeated Liberty in the regular season shows up, we could see a top team fall. Orange will need to force turnovers as Coffman has a high power offense with a starting five that can really fill it up. Watch out for the guard matchup between Bryson Lane and Dominiq Penn, as it could be pivotal in terms of results in this one. If Orange wants to continue their season, someone other then Lane will need to step up. But, that guy could possibly be Luke Ballinger, who has proven himself this season. A game you will want to catch being played at Worthington Christian.
