Utah has always been a secret when it comes to athletes. The Utah basketball scene has continued to grow as high school teams have been successful when they travel outside of Utah. The secret is out an many colleges from around the country are flocking to Utah to recruit talented athletes that can play at multiple levels. This past high school season there was a lot of good high school teams regardless of classification. With that said we expect the grassroots teams to be just as competitive. These are they few programs that seem to travel consistently to note worthy tournaments across the country. We have listed teams alphabetically.
Cache Valley Elite: Cache Valley Elite seems to always have shooters on their team. When we saw their 16U team play in last years FAB 48 they always stayed with teams because of their ability to shoot.
Exum Elite: The only shoe circuit team in the state once again will have a strong team as they compete against the best Adidas Teams in the country. They will be loaded with height, shooting and talent across the board at every age group. Two young players to keep an eye on that are from neighboring states are 6’6 G JB White who already holds Division 1 offers will likely blow up this summer. The kid is electric! The other out of stater you don’t want to miss is Lawson Lovering who is a 6’11 C who also hold Division 1 offers. Lawson is big and continues to add to his basketball tool belt. These two are just the 16U players we are talking about. Stay tuned for an in-depth preview.
Salt Lake Bounce: In their opening year Bounce was able to hold their own against teams like Compton Magic, Colorado Hawks and PowerHouse Hoops. This year they should hold their own once again. 2021 6’0 PG Talon Valdes will be huge for them. 6’6 Tyler Roberts and 6’3 PG Chris Rich will power the 17U squad and 15U 6’2 Elijah Tolbert is a versatile guard. Catch them on the Prep Hoops Circuit.
Salt Lake Metro: Coach Dave Hammer always puts a competitive group that travels to showcases.
Salt Lake Rebels: The Rebels always have a competitive group. Most of their talent comes from their unsigned senior group that features 6’4 SG Matt Norman and 6’7 F Lino Saez. 17U squad has a good shooter in Senna Namdar. Looking forward to seeing who else is on their roster.
Utah Basketball Club: UBC is always well coached and they run a well organized program. 17U will once again be lead by Stone Hutchings who is a dynamic big guard who can defend three positions. With the addition of 6’6 Kase Peterson UBC will be a tough team to handle. Their coaching staff will have their teams ready at all levels.
Utah Mountain Stars: With the addition of Dyson Kohler Utah Mountain Stars will have one of the best players in the state. The 6’7 W can play all over the floor. Robert Wahley is another player that will be great for the 2021 team.
Utah Premier: Premier has a lot of bodies but their best player will once again be PG Mark McCurdy.
