Top Underclassmen at the Matt Reynolds Showcase
The spring is here, which means the underclassmen 2020-2022 have an opportunity to shine on the grassroots stage. Below are several athletes we expect to take the next jump this year.
Caison Hartloff 2021 Claremore Wing
Hartloff has an opportunity this summer to really burst onto the scene. The game of Hartloff is refreshing to scout with how hard he is constantly playing on both ends of the floor. The scoring ability of Hartloff is starting to take a turn from being just a three-point shooter to using his improved dribbling skills and athleticism to score around the rim. Hartloff is going to turn heads this spring and summer.
Ethan Franks 2022 Heritage Hall Point Guard
Heritage Hall freshman Franks was outstanding in most aspects of the game in the one role. He shot the ball well, handled the ball well, was a great floor general, and played defense.
Kaden Bogard 2022 Mustang Point Guard
Bogard was a name that had not graced my attention before Saturday, but he is certainly a player I will follow in the future. Bogard was truly an exceptional ball-handler with the craftiness to get his own shot. He was a smooth, consistent scorer who never struck quickly, but allowed plays to develop before him before executing. He can shoot the ball, as well, and will be a game-changer as his mid-range game progresses.
Caden Fry 2022 Owasso Forward
Fry is an incredibly versatile player who does a multitude of things with or without the ball. First and foremost, he was one of the best rebounders on the floor Saturday. He could also create his own shot and was a good finisher from midrange. He defended well, hustled all day, and was even one of the more talented passers for his team. He has a high IQ and is on his way to being one of the special talents in the Oklahoma 2022 class.
Cam Mathis 2022 Enid Wing
Mathis is a rarity for his age. Culminating a practical basketball IQ with his height, explosiveness, and finesse, he is a character to watch on the court. He scores the ball, slashes, shoots, rebounds, defends, and passes well.
Abraham Aghasedo 2021 Edmond Santa Fe Forward
Aghasedo possesses great post moves, was aggressive and physical and was a dominant scorer on Saturday at the showcase. Aghasedo has size and strength on his size but is also agile in utilizing his footwork to score in the paint. He also rebounded the ball well and chalked up boards all day to get put-backs.
Israel Hart 2021 Midwest City
Midwest City sophomore, Hart shot the daylight out of the ball on Saturday and scored out of the dribble as well. Hart finished well near the rim with both hands, and also undertook floor general responsibilities with clean, sharp passes into the post and to cutters from the wing. Hart looks to step into a more substantial role with Midwest City next season, and he started his junior campaign off the right way at the showcase.
Cyson Mathis 2020 Enid Forward
The size and intensity Mathis brings to the floor make him instantly stand out. Mathis is going to turn small colleges heads with the way he rebounds the ball, plays defense, and can score inside.
Jordan Thompson 2020 Southmoore Guard
Thompson has proven his value over this past high school season. On Saturday, Thompson continued to show why the NCAA Division II offers will flow in this summer. The young man can shoot the lights out of the ball.
Christian Cook 2020 Midwest City Wing
Cook is an outstanding Wing with a sky-high potential to possibly even turn into an NCAA Division I recruit if he can continue to improve his game this spring and summer. It was a dunk party for Cook as he showed off his athleticism. In his first two years of high school, Cook was known for shooting the rock. Now he makes it even tougher to stop him from scoring with his improved ball handling and athleticism.
Kasia Burton 2022 Tishomingo Point Guard
Burton is a talented Point Guard with nice ball handling skills and change of pace leading to him getting buckets around the rim. It will be interesting to see how he continues to develop in an interesting 2022 Class.
Conner Calavan 2020 Fort Gibson Wing
Calavan can shoot the ball lights out from three-point range. We are starting to see his game evolve to him being a better passer, defender, and doing the small things on the court to benefit his team. NCAA Division II programs will want to keep an eye on him this spring and summer.
Josh Minney 2020 Sand Springs Wing
Minney is a smart high IQ basketball player on the court at all times. He is the type of player every championship squad needs to win. The versatility Minney provides on the Wing being able to fill so many needs is what makes him so valuable. Small colleges have Minney on your board heading into the spring and summer.
Caden Hale 2020 Metro Christian Guard
Hale is a good shooter from three-point land. Out of Metro Christian, Hale provides a lot of the intangibles college coaches like to see. He passed the ball extremely well at the camp finding the open teammates around him.
