Continue ReadingWe’re not ready to fully release the top 25 prospects for the class of 2022 just yet — something we’ll do in the spring after more extensive evaluations. However, we do have a good feel for the top part of the class thus far. Here’s our early look at the top 10 freshmen in the state of Wisconsin…
1. Tre White – Mac Irvin Fire/Milwaukee Washington
Coming over from Texas, White enrolled at Milwaukee Washington late in the season and helped the Purgolders reach their second-straight appearance in the Division 2 state title game. The 6-foot-5 guard already has offers from Kansas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, LSU, TCU, and more. A big guard that can play anywhere on the rim, White has advanced three-level scoring ability for his age.
2. Jeffery Brazziel – Wisconsin Playground/Milwaukee Bradley Tech
A smooth, versatile prospect that can take the ball to the rim, Brazziel looks like a high major prospect as well. The 6-foot-5 freshman can play a variety of positions and score in different ways. Certainly someone that has a chance to be the No. 1 player in the state by the time he’s a senior.
3. Maximus Nelson – Phenom University/Appleton North
Another guy we could see being the top prospect in three years, Nelson is a skilled, versatile post prospect who can dominate the paint and do damage away from the rim. Expect Nelson to be a walking double-double during his high school career at Appleton North and begin to start tearing up the Fox Valley Association next season.
4. Steven Clay – Phenom University/Menomonee Falls
Clay is one of four prospects right now who are in the discussion to be the state’s top ranked player. Still raw physically, Clay could take off at any point in the next three years. The 6-foot-5 wing can flat out shoot the basketball and create his own shot. A plus-length prospect, Clay’s best days are way ahead of him.
5. Jordan Jahnke – Hortonville/Phenom University
A bouncy forward who has some budding versatility, Jahnke is an intriguing prospect. Already playing above the rim and making some big highlight plays, Jahnke is going to attract Division 1 attention.
6. Seth Trimble – Menomonee Falls/Phenom University
Some might disagree with how high Trimble sits early. He definitely doesn’t have the size or length that the rest of the top 10 has, but we value what prospects can do below the rim as much as they do above it. Trimble is a high-IQ playmaking point guard. He can score from all over the floor and showed takeover ability as a freshman. The younger brother of former North Carolina wing J.P. Tokoto, Trimble has his brother’s hops as well and is already dunking, despite being around 5-foot-10.
7. Terryon Brumby – Racine Case/Phenom University
Had a very successful offensive season for Case. Brumby is always in attack mode and can size somebody up and go right at them. At 6-feet tall, Brumby has good size at the lead guard position and could transition to off the ball as well if needed.
8. Amari Jedkins – Racine Case/Phenom University
Going to see how his skills develop over the next three years, but physically, Jedkins is ahead of the curve. The 6-foot-7 freshman is a beast on the interior with his ability to attack the offensive glass and block shots. Jedkins can also step away from the basket and knock down open shots.
9. Christopher Morgan – Ashwaubenon/Wisconsin Crusaders
Has already picked up an offer from West Virginia. The freshman shoots it really well from 3-point range, very advanced and coming off screens and setting his feet. A combo guard, Morgan contributes in a variety of ways — rebounding, defending, facilitating, etc.
10. Armani Jones – Milwaukee Academy of Science
Size is going to be the big question here. Jones can flat out light it up from 3-point range. However, he’s only about 5-foot-8. The freshman guard could often put up 20 points at the varsity level without breaking a sweat. A deadly long-range shooter with speed on the ball, Jones is one of the more electrifying scorers in this class.
