1. Nico Mannion (Pinnacle 2019)
Who else would it be? Nico Mannion is the top player in Arizona and is ranked as the #1 point guard in the 2019 class. Mannion was hot all season long, scoring 30.4 points per game! He also knocked down the game winning shot to beat Shadow Mountain and won back to back state titles. Mannion is now gearing up for his transition to Tucson as he has signed with the University of Arizona. Many scouts are already looking past that and are projecting him as a lottery pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Only time will tell but the ceiling is sky high for Nico Mannion.
2. Ty Ty Washington (Cesar Chavez 2021)
Ty Ty Washington might be the biggest stock riser in all of 6A and that is incredible because he is already the second ranked player in the Class of 2021 in our rankings. He averaged 22.8 points a game as a sophomore! Not only is his scoring numbers impressive but his leadership was as well. As the best player on your team, you will always be looked at as the leader and he stepped up and led his team despite being a sophomore.
3. Trent Brown (Pinnacle 2019)
I’m a very big fan of what Brown was able to due this year and I think he demonstrated great leadership by stepping up his game when Mains was injured. Brown showed why he is one of the best shooters in the state and demonstrated his veteran guard skills. Brown rarely turned the ball over and got the thing moving in their offense. He is a pure point guard that is capable of shooting the 3 ball effectively.
4. D’Maurian Williams (Westview 2019)
Williams is a straight up bully. He uses his strength to muscle defenders and score slashing to the basket. He is a capable shooter, not the best, but can get hot from deep. Williams is also an underrated passer in my opinion, being thought of more as a score first type player. However, he has demonstrated a clear passing IQ from the games I’ve seen him in.
5. Khalid Price (Mountain Pointe 2019)
I’m a big fan of Price’s game. First off, he is a great veteran leader. In all of the games I’ve seen him play, he is always making the right pass and encouraging his teammates. He is also very good at holding them accountable, knowing when his teammates needs a pep talk and when they need some tough love. Price can also shoot the heck out of the ball and is a really effective scorer. However, I like him best as a traditional pass first point guard due to his high IQ.
