DeMatha got up early in this game and never looked back winning by a final score of 85-53. Michigan head coach, John Belien, Delaware head coach, Martin Ingelsby with an assistant and a Louisville assistant were all in attendance. Below I break down three things that I liked from the game.
DeMatha’s Energy
Last night finally looked like the DeMatha team that we were seeing in the middle of the season. The Stags were clicking in all phases of the game which led them to winning the Maryland State Championship for the second year in a row. 2019 Jahmir Young looks completely healthy after an ankle injury sidelined him for a few weeks. 2020 Earl Timberlake was a monster on both ends of the floor making perimeter jump shots and finishing at the rim. Defensively, Rock Creek was not able to do much on Earl as his shot blocking capabilities were shown throughout the game. Down low, there was simply no answer for 2020 7’0 Hunter Dickinson. DeMatha will use this momentum heading into this weekend where this will try and win Alhambra for the second year in a row.
2020 Delonnie Hunt’s Play
The 5’10 sophomore impressed last night with his ball handling and lead guard attributes. Hunt is a guy that I have never really seen play a bad game or make mistakes. He gets up and down the court and is always playing hard. He is able to make tough shots and passes very well. Look for Hunt to become one of the more talked about point guards from this area heading into AAU play.
DeMathas Game Plan In Going To Hunter Dickinson
There was nobody that was able to stop Hunter on Rock Creek and DeMatha realized that early on but especially in the second half. Dickinson finished with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. This is the type of performance that we are used to seeing from Dickinson and something we expect to keep on seeing heading into Alhambra this weekend and on the AAU scene with Team Takeover.
