G Trequan Carrington – Marin Luther
Carrington opened the state tournament with a bang, setting records for points (41) and made field goals (18) in a win over Northwestern. The senior guard then scored 19 points in the Division 3 championship victory over Waupun. In two games, Carrington averaged 30.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals, and 3.5 assists.
G Cole Nau – Brookfield Central
The stats don’t tell the entire story, but even on paper, Nau was very effective. The senior guard averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game, while leading the Lancers to the Division 1 state championship. Despite making his first trip to the Kohl Center, Nau was as poised as it gets, controlling the flow of the game for just about every minute he was on the floor.
Casey Verhagen – Sheboygan Lutheran
Verhagen tallied 20 assists in two games as Sheboygan Lutheran won the Division 5 state championship. The freshman guard had an extremely impressive 10:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Verhagen also averaged 9.5 points and 2.5 steals along the way.
Ace Evans – Martin Luther
The senior guard was extremely efficient as Martin Luther won the Division 3 state championship. In two games, Evans averaged 20.5 points on a combined 17-of-24 shooting (70.8%). Evans had a team-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting in the title game victory over Waupun.
G Johnny Davis – La Crosse Central
Despite a loss to Milwaukee Washington, nobody left the Kohl Center feeling like it was on Davis’ shoulders. The Purgolders threw everything they had at Davis, who still finished with 31 points. The state’s second-ranked player in the 2020 class was everywhere, grabbing eight rebounds, while recording three steals, three assists, and three blocks.
G Jaden Kreklow – New Glarus
Kreklow out-dueled the defending Division 4 state champs, Roncalli, in the semifinals. The senior guard posted 21 points, five rebounds, and four assists while leading the Vikings to the title game. To cap off his career, Kreklow notched 22 points and four assists as New Glarus topped Lourdes Academy to take home the gold ball.
G Logan Mulhern – Osseo-Fairchild
Mulhern had one of the best individual efforts of the weekend. Osseo-Fairchild lost in the Division 4 semifinals, but Mulhern went down swinging, going off for 33 points and 20 rebounds.
F Jalen Johnson – Nicolet
Johnson had 20 points, 20 rebounds, and four assists in the Division 2 championship win over Milwaukee Washington. The state’s top ranked player in the 2020 class also had 16 points and 11 rebounds in the semifinals against Elkhorn. In addition to some big time highlights, Johnson was huge down the stretch in the title game, taking over as a scorer, facilitator, and defending the rim at a high level on the defensive end.
F Jamari Sibley – Nicolet
Sibley had 23 points and nine rebounds in the Division 2 state championship game. He also had 13 points and six boards against Elkhorn in the semifinals. The 6-foot-9 junior knocked down some tough fall away jumpers throughout the weekend and was equally impressive on the defensive, often neutralizing the other team’s best scorer.
F Jacob Ognacevic – Sheboygan Lutheran
Ognacevic was dominant in the Division 5 state championship game, tallying 35 points and 19 rebounds in the victory over Columbus Catholic. A skilled, versatile forward who could be ready to blow up during the travel season, Ognacevic also had 19 points and 14 boards to help Sheboygan Lutheran get past McDonnel Central in the semifinals.
