Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players who raised their profile with their performance at the state tournament in Wichita.
25-Markell Hood, 6’5, G/F, 2020, Blue Valley Northwest
A big, versatile guard with a great upside. He has a great presence on the floor and can jump passing lanes, run the lanes well and score in a variety of ways. He gets buckets, and he can shoot well and force his way to the basket and score through the air when he finds an open path to the rim.
1-Tymer Jackson, 6’0, PG, 2019, Olathe North
A smart player with great instincts with the ball. Jackson scored the first 6 points against Blue Valley Northwest as he continued to look sharp with the ball in hands. He fills out the position well and has great vision and a knack for the offensive side of the ball. Jackson is also great at jumping passing lanes and getting open looks in full court situations.
10-DK Middleton, 6’4, G, 2020, Lawrence Free State
A strong and athletic athlete who can handle the ball and score when he needs to, Middleton has emerged as a strong wing player who can makes plays off the dribble and score in transition. He’s an unselfish player who passes well and bounces his way in the paint and gets shots off as floaters or jumpers.
12-Jake Potthoff, 6’6, G/F, 2019, Shawnee Mission South
A quick player who sees time on the wing and inside. Potthoff has a high basketball IQ and is great at adapting his game to given circumstances. He can create off the dribble, slash to the basket and is great at stretching the floor and knocking down 3-pointers and jumpers inside the perimeter.
10-Mayson Quartlebaum, 6’4, F, 2020, Lawrence
A versatile performer off the bench with good size and a talented skillset for a wing player. He handles the ball well and showed he can post up some inside as well as take the occasional outside 3-pointer. In addition to a physical frame, Quartlebaum has a solid basketball IQ and can handle the ball, use his size to his advantage and spot defensive schemes and capitalize on them.
