Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several top big men who raised their profile with their performance at the state tournament in Wichita.
25-Anthony Brown, 6’5, F, 2019, Olathe North
Brown is a good rebounder and an important piece in the paint on offense. He played tough when it mattered and knows when to move out of the lane and create driving space for his teammates. He’s also a good shot blocker and showed he has strong hands.
21-Eric Galbreath, 6’6, F, 2019, Lawrence
Galbreath brings energy and hustle to the floor. He has a strong frame and can handle physicality on the block. He is a rebounder. He fights for position and came away with several impressive rebounds where it looked as if the ball was out of reach.
23-Michael Peake, 6’7, F, 2020, Blue Valley Northwest
An impressive forward with height, length and the athleticism to make a statement from the beginning. And that’s what he did. Peake is a competitor and he dominated the boards, and just about everything that happened in the paint. He has a lot of fight and grit and is willing to post up and clean up plays. He is always moving and can play above the rim incredibly well, including his token baseline spin which always seems to lead to buckets.
44-Skyler Rhoads, 6’5, F, 2019, Shawnee Mission South
A solid post player who keeps the block and mid-range area a few feet out well defended. He feels his defenders with his back and is good at slipping through coverage and scoring layups using his strong hand. Rhoads was instrumental in his team success this season, fighting for the ball and looking to score and make smart decisions on the block.
35-Breelyn Wright, 6’5, F, 2019, Wichita-Southeast
A good forward who moves in and out of the paint well. He values defense as much as he does offense and can block shots and protect the basket at a high level. He keeps opponents out of play and gets two hands on the ball and greets it in the air. He also can score quickly and uses head fakes and ball arm movement to draw a foul.
