Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the most versatile players who raised their profile in Salina.
Nate Adler, 6’2, G/F, 2019, Wichita Trinity
Adler struggled with his shot from the perimeter on Wednesday in Trinity’s win over Chanute, but showcased an all-around game. He can shoot from the outside, has a strong, physical build, and can handle the ball, or score around the basket. Adler is a tough inside-out match-up for opponents who also did a good job on the boards and got in the passing lanes defensively as he recorded a game-high three steals. He finished Wednesday’s game with a game-high nine rebounds. Adler put together a well-rounded game in the semifinals, scoring 12 points and hauled in five rebounds while knocking down four 3-pointers.
Ty Bowman, 6’5, F, 2020, Chanute
Also a football standout, Bowman is a strong, physical athlete who runs the floor exceptionally well, rebounds, defends and is a terrific passer. He was bottled up for much of Wednesday’s game by Trinity as he played in the high post against the Knights’ zone, but showed the ability to pass, find the open man and got on the boards, hauling in six rebounds in the first half and finished with eight total.
Braijon Barnes, 6;4, F, 2019, KC Piper
One of the state’s better all-around athletes, Barnes is an elite defender, capable of locking guys up at multiple positions. He can move his feet on the perimeter, challenge post players in the paint, and is a terrific shot blocker. Barnes is capable of playing above the rim and threw down a pair of highlight reel type dunks on Wednesday against Parsons. Offensively he is a capable passer on the perimeter, can handle the ball a little and can drive to the basket and finish.
Davonte Yates, 6’3, F, 2019, Parsons
Yates is a tough match-up for most opponents as he brings terrific bounce, athleticism and an inside-outside game to the court. He is capable of playing above the rim, blocking shots and finishing around the basket. He had a strong game in a quarterfinal loss to KC Piper, scoring 14 points on 5 of 7 shooting while adding five rebounds.
