Top Defenders:
Brandon Beavers (6’2″ / G 2019 / Harvest Prep): Beavers showcased some quick instincts on the floor Saturday morning. The senior was quick with his hand able to poke loose a couple steals. Up in the ball handlers face all game, Beavers did a solid job on the defensive side of things.
Jay Billingsley (6’7″ / F 2021 / Lutheran East): The sophomore didn’t play his best game offensively but he picked it up on the defensive side. The forward moves well for his size and never stops moving. Tabbing four steals, he was able to force some turnovers getting his team running the other way. Needs to continue to work on his north/south movement as he can be a victim of the blow by at times. A bit of room to grow but he will get there.
Taquan Simington (6’2″ / G 2020 / Columbus South): Simington is really athletic, and it benefits him on the defensive side. Simington fouled out, but he was a dog with the on-ball defense all game. Simington can rise up and swat a shot at the rim, with no problem. Simington has quick instincts and strong hands that allow him to rip away the ball from the opposing team. Simington was the reason his team was out in transition on multiple occasions.
Continued:
Trevell Adams (5’9″ / G 2020 / Columbus South): Trevell Adams comes off the bench and immediately gives you that boost on defense. Adams noticeably takes pride on the defensive end of the floor. Adams pinned a couple shots to the backboard, as the guard has chase down blocking ability.
Lunden McDay (6’3 / G 2019 / Akron SVSM): Lunden has the traits of a really good defender, and the physicality to put it to work. McDay went for a couple steals, as he just has the defensive vision that you want to see out there. McDay can man up with the opposing teams best player, as well as guard more then one position. Despite the loss, McDay showed flashes of why he is a top tier defender.
