Here are standouts from the two games:
Marvin Price | Patterson ‘19
Price set the tone early for the Clippers, scoring 12 of his 22 points in the first half. If there was a rebound to be had on either side of the floor, Price was there to try and grab it. We were impressed with the energy and motor he played with throughout. When Price was subbed out in the second quarter, Thomas Stone made a run to get back into the game, showing how important his presence is on the court. Price finished with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Zack Blackwell | Patterson ‘20
Blackwell always supplies immense ball pressure and gives 110 percent on the defensive end. This game wasn’t any different. Whether it was tapping the ball from behind as the chaser or turning his man as he dribbled down the floor, Blackwell made his man uncomfortable any chance he could. On the offensive end, the 5-foot-11 guard connected on two three’s and had few lay ups by filling the lanes in transition. Blackwell finished with 14 points and six steals.
Gary Grant | Thomas Stone ‘19
Grant doesn’t do much that’s going to ‘wow’ you, he simply just plays hard. He isn’t going to cross his man up off the dribble, he just puts his head down and drives hard to the rim where he can finish with floaters. When his defender gave him space, he pulled up from 12-to-15 feet. Grant led the Cougars with 22 points and eight rebounds.
Shawn Barclay | Thomas Stone ‘19
Barclay came into the game and immediately got hot by scoring 10 points of his 19 points in the second quarter. He was the reason Thomas Stone was able to fight back into the game before halftime. He cooled off in the second half, but still managed to knock down a three and a mid-range jumper. All of Barclay’s points came off catch-and-shoot situations. Barclay shot 8-of-16 from the field and 3-of-5 from three.
Collin Schlee | Oakdale ’19
Schlee made his last appearance in an Oakdale uniform and possibly on the hardwood before he sets off to become the quarterback for Kent State. Despite the loss, Schlee played with outstanding energy, finishing with 21 points and 16 rebounds. The 6-foot-4 guard got out in transition and finished over the rim, and hit a handful of pull-up jump shots. He was by far the most athletic and best rebounder on the floor.
Dorian Stevens | Wicomico ’19
Stevens came out aggressive from the opening tip as the main scorer for the Indians. The 5-foot-10 point guard couldn’t seem to miss from three, going 6-of-10 for the game on his way to 26 points. Many of his makes were off the dribble. Despite his lack of size, Stevens crashed the boards aggressively and collected six rebounds to go with his four assists and two steals.
