Standout Players
• Luke Lachey (6’6” / F 2020 / Grandview Heights): Bound to be a high major D1 football player, Lachey was a stud on the court Friday night. A defensive presence inside, Lachey was able to contest and make it tough for scorers all night. Putting in 20 points, the junior was a balanced scorer throughout the game. When Grandview needed a bucket he was there. Also, a big steal and slam put an exclamation mark on the win, for Lachey and Grandview.
• Manny Day (6’3” / W 2019 / Grandview Heights): Manny Day was an excellent second option for the Bobcats on Friday night. Stepping up, and putting in a huge 16 points. 12 of those points coming in the second half, Manny Day went takeover mode at times. The senior showed a strong ability to get to the rim and finish through contact. But, a solid leader for Grandview, picked it up exactly when they needed it. Also, a good on-ball defender as well, that must be highlighted.
• Owen Hazelbaker (6’7 / F 2019 / Johnstown): To cap his high school career, the senior put in another solid performance. A player with inside/our ability, Hazelbaker dropped in 15 points to lead the way for the Johnnies. With his big frame, the West Liberty commit was able to body up defenders and work in the post well. At 6’7”, the big man has shot blocking ability with the best of them. Snatching 12 boards, the forward couldn’t be stopped, limiting second chance shots for the Bobcats. But, Owen will be someone you want to follow along at D2 West Liberty next season.
• Soul Hines (6’4” / W 2019 / Harvest Prep): Soul Hines was the definition of clutch, in a tight contest with Columbus Academy. The senior stepped up and put in 21 points, to lead the way for the Warriors. Nailing five three-pointers, the wing guard has good shooting ability. Able to rise above, with a solid release point, Hines was torching his opposition all night. Scoring 16 points in the second half, was much needed to stop the Academy comeback. However, a big showing for a scorer that filled it up from deep.
• Carter Warstler (6’0” / G 2020 / Columbus Academy): In my favorite performance of the day, Carter Warstler went off for 22 points behind a big third quarter. First half of the game, the junior was doing a lot of the dirty work and a solid defender. With his team’s chances dissolving, Carter went off for 16 points in the third quarter. Nailing four three-pointers with a quick release, was clutch for Academy. But, the fastest player on the court, can blow by to the hoop with ease as well. Also, a defensive menace who is up in your face at all times, was very disruptive in this one. However, a player to watch next season.
