Spring Combine Recapture: Ametri Moss
Sophomore combo guard Ametri Moss easily landed on the PrepHoopsTN Spring Combine All-Star Team. In fact, Ametri was one of the two best guards in the building (Phil Dotson the other).
Moss’ measurables are listed below along with a deeper evaluation of his productive Sunday in Murfreesboro.
Ametri Moss earned The Leaf Chronicle Player of the Week mid-December.
Ametri Moss, 5’10” PG (Clarksville Northwest) — 2021
- Standing Reach — 93″ or 7’9″
- 5’10” 134 pounds
- Wingspan — 6’1″
- Vertical — 27.5″
- Hand Length — 8″
- Lane Agility — 11.20, 11.06
Speed kills unsettled defenses and Ametri Moss posseses the unruly speed of dangerous point guards. Clarksville resident Moss posted the third fastest shuttle time of 11.06 behind Jamie Abernathy (10.50) and Ben Fulton (10.71).
With a 6’1″ wingspan, Ametri boasts a +3 meaning his arms are wider spread than he is tall. Obviously, long arms are a benefit to hoopers. Moss needs his long arms and average hops to finish among the trees.
Broadly speaking, as they climb the basketball ladder, guards find the need to lean more on floaters and unnatural finishes in tight. Ametri projects as an average college lane finisher because he shows a silky soft touch and understands how to change speeds.
Deceptively quick. Ametri Moss glides with a casual jaunt and then explodes with a sneaky speed change before softly offering his favored lefty layup to the iron halo.
At 5-foot-10, Moss will be relegated to college point guard prospect. There are fewer than 10 sub-6′ guards in college basketball. Judge Ametri Moss as a future floor leader, but consider him a current scoring guard for Clarksville Northwest.
Moss plays with an easy saunter and poise. His ease of movement completely lulls defenders into a false sense of security enabling him to pick apart traps and help defenders.
The sophomore has time to evolve his game. Midway through his high school career Moss is already a proven varsity Class AAA scorer.
Tasked with leading his 5-on-5 team Ametri frequently elected to score not supply. There is no knocking the Mossy dive into the heart of the defense. His inclination to score does make it slightly more difficult, though not impossible, to envision Ametri setting up frontcourt scorers.
In his defense, Moss slashing was usually the best option for his team at the Spring Combine.
Ametri Moss is a D2 to low major guard prospect.
