Sharife is the first junior to receive the award since Derrick Favors (Utah Jazz) of South Atlanta High School back in 2007-2008. He is also the first player from Cobb County, Georgia to receive the award since Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics) of Wheeler High School back in 2014-2015.
The 6-foot-1 point guard had one of the best seasons in the history of Georgia basketball as an individual player. Sharife has had an amazing few months, dating back to last AAU season in the Nike EYBL. Since last May, Sharife has earned a plethora of major awards in the high school hoops world. He has received awards such as the Nike EYBL’s Offensive Player of the Year and Nike Peach Jam’s Most Offensive Player Award during the Nike EYBL season last summer.
This high school season he was also awarded the City of Palms Classic most valuable player and the Bass Pro Shops Tournament most valuable player after capturing both tournament titles with his McEachern squad. The Indians finished their amazing season with a 32-0 record and capturing their first ever class 7A state title after defeating the defending champions Meadowcreek High School and where Sharife finished with a game high 20 points.
During his junior campaign, Cooper averaged 27.8 points per game while dishing out 8.2 assists per game. He has had a phenomenal run since stepping foot inside of McEachern. His overall record over the last three years in a McEachern uniform sits at 87-4. That is an amazing stat. To only lose four total games in three years and while playing three national schedules. He has faced some of the top players in the nation year after year and is currently ranked as the number three point guard in his class according to ESPN.
Sharife was recently invited as well to participate in the USA Basketball mini-camp that is set to be held in Minnesota on April 4-7th. He also participated in their mini-camp back in October before the season began in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Cooper will once again be running with Athletes of Tomorrow (GA) in the Nike EYBL circuit this spring, summer and alongside top-10 2020 W Brandon Boston Jr. of Norcross High School. Sharife will be looking to bring his momentum into the hard grind of the EYBL this year and continue to rise his stock as the year goes on.
