Jonathon Nchekwube, a developing 6-foot-7, 190-pound senior, has largely come off of the bench this year for the Demos but his combination of athleticism and potential has gotten him some attention and one school recently stepped forward with a scholarship offer.
“I was just offered by Colorado Mesa,” Nchekwube said. “It’s awesome. They are really interested in me and we’ve been talking pretty much after Vegas about visiting there and them being really interested in me. So it’s really awesome.”
Nchekwube made a visit to campus on an official visit before Jefferson’s two playoff games and he noted that he really enjoyed his time there. While everything checked out with what Nchekwube is looking for, he did not commit. He’s focused on playing out the rest of the season before making any decisions.
Nchekwube’s role this season has been to come off the bench up front and he’s had some big games here and there. He’s stuck things out this year and figures to be a solid contributor for the Demos at the state tournament, which begins with a third meeting against Grant at 6:30 pm on Wednesday night.
