Hood Conference title and a state tournament appearance. As Amato now embarks on AAU ball and the hope of increasing his college recruitment while still acknowledging the success he and his high school team had this year.
“I think that I improved a lot and I think we came together as a team a lot as well,” Amato said. “There were multiple moments in the season where we could have broke and bended but I think we came together. We laid a good foundation for incoming classes but also next year where we’ll be pretty tough to beat.”
A good all-around athlete who can play multiple backcourt positions, Amato has improved on his offensive game while still being able to showcase his versatility. “I became more confident but I realize that I still have a lot of work to do,” Amato said. “I want to get a lot stronger, doing cross-fit and body weight stuff, and I just want to work on my overall game and get ready for the circuit.”
Amato will be running with the new ML20 team that will be playing on the adidas Gauntlet and he’s excited about the opportunity to compete against some of the country’s best this spring and summer. His hope is that his play will garner more college recruiting interest. He still holds an offer from Eastern Washington and has been contacted by Portland State. “Hopefully spring things will blow up,” Amato said.
Amato currently ranks as the #7 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
