Continue ReadingWhile Thurston wasn’t able to defend their 5A state title, it was far from a wasted season for Isaac Lange. The athletic 6-foot-1 guard did what he usually does on the basketball floor but was able to develop in other areas. His hope is that those improvements will help him land at the right place at the next level, which he’s still in the midst of sorting out.
“I still have the same game but what developed was my leadership,” Lange said. “We lost a lot of seniors from last year so I had to be that vocal leader. So getting into that leadership mentality really helped me and my team.”
On the recruiting front, Alaska Fairbanks has been the main four-year school that has been in touch. But a whole host of JC programs have been interested – local schools such as Lane (which has offered a scholarship) but also national programs such as Howard (Tex.), Colby (Kan.), and Eastern Arizona. Going the JUCO route is something Lange is definitely considering.
“I’m looking for a junior college to develop my physique and transfer out to a school that fits me,” Lange said.
As noted, the Colts did not repeat as state champions but still made it to the state tournament and earned a trophy – feats in themselves. “There were a little bit of ups and downs and a lot of pressure,” Lange said. “Especially after last year when we won the state title, everyone was coming after us. We had to play with the mentality that we had a chip on our shoulder and sometimes we couldn’t play up to our expectations but sometimes we would and would really exceed that. We just tried to stay with the same mentality.”
Lange currently ranks as the #4 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
